Checkered floor mats vs rubber

I'll be picking up my new MINI in about 3 weeks and am thinking about the accessories.

I was going to get the rubber floor mats because I heard they wear better than the carpet. But then I saw the JCW checkered floor mats on the MINI-USA site. I thought they would look nice in a PW convertible but I have never seen them in person.

Anyone have the JCW checkered floor mats? Do they look good/wear well? Your recommendations?

Ive seen the checkerd mats. I like them but not enough for my daily use... I'll probably go with the rubber mats for durability sake.

If you're a bit **** retentive about the appearance of your interior, you may not be satisfied with any of the mats available from MINI. The carpeted ones do not wear well and show quite a bit of dirt. The rubber mats wear quite well, and are wonderful for bad weather, but again, show dirt like there is no tomorrow. After trying a couple of different sets, I bought a third party set of coco mats. Wear well, hide dirt, and don't look too bad.

Best of luck with your new ride.

I have the coco mats in my PW/B. I'd post a pic but I'm at work and don't have access to my photo site. Do a search on NAM for coco mats and you should find a few threads where you can see pics.
My coco mats are black with white flecks, very sharp.

I have the JCW mats and love them. They are sort of a combo of both types of mat as they are actually a rubbery material, not cloth. The drivers side does have a cloth strip where the feet go though. I haven't had any problems with wear except that they show dirt... but pretty much any mat does that

I don't know what interior you have, but they go fantastic with the grey/black leatherette and/or space grey cloth.

I'm thinking about the JCW checkered mats for a backup set, but they seemed so pricey to me. I'm sure I'll end up getting them eventually, though.
Here's the link to the thread with some coco mat pics.

Are they Black and White? The site says they are a metallic checker. ???

My interior is black leatherette and anthrocite so I thought that they would really pop.

(By the way, they are also sold at a discount on eBay.)

they aren't white, but more of a grey... with a hint of silver. slightly darker than the silver downtubes, steeringwheel inserts and other silver parts in the car. I'm sure they would still look great with black/anthracite.

Our car came with rubber mats. Wife hated them. The least bit of wet and they tracked mud badly.

Now we have the JCW mats, they dont get as dirty so fast but still need to be cleaned. They are not pure white and black checks, more muted in both colors

sounds like MINI owners ought to drive barefooted to keep the mats clean!!!!

If & when you can I for one would love to see some pic's of your Coco mats, blk/wht sounds neat, as for the JCW mats I too thought I might go there, but after seeing them I feel they may look to busy......

Oh Chows

I saw this coming when I saw the title of this thread...............

Chows, I'm getting very concerned - I'm almost afraid to ask what else you've had checkerboarded.........

.....you are the NAM version of Auric Goldfinger.

I've had MINI carpeted mats since I got my car and they've worked out fine...still look brand new, and I love the MINI logo on the corner. If these ever wear out I'll probably just get another set. If you think the JCW mats would look great w/ your car, just get them. It's worth it simply for the aesthetic value!! If you reconsider a year from now, so what...switch them out...no problem!

I sure like the looks of the CocoMat black herringbone with the blue accents. I'll bet they'd look pretty nice in the all black/anthracite/leather interior of my new HB/B MCS.

It's only money right.... right?!

i vote rubber..

it seems that chows4us is tha 'checked' king...

u should go w/rubber mats...
tha 'coco' ones r k00l but they dont protect ur cars carpet from debri or moisture
carpet &/or cloth mats to much werk to keep em clean in wet weather, if u need to scrub em they dont hold up well

I have the JCW floor mats in my space blue checkmate and they look fantastic! The perfect way to tie in the external checks to the interior.

You should do what I did....

Put down the checkered mats - and then put the Rubber S mats on TOP of them...

If you want to show off the MINI for that special someone, the rubber mats can quickly find their way to the boot and the checkered mats look good as new.

I must say that I am very happy with the rubber mats in containing the dirt and moisture - yes, they do show mud and dirt eventually but they clean up well and protect the car from all the challenges of normal use.

Annette, love the look of those coco mats! Just one question... how do they feel on bare feet? (yes, I know I shouldn't be driving barefoot, but flip-flops can get in the way sometimes!)

I recommend the rubber mats as a first purchase and get the JCW mats later for show and look purposes, because the first time a soda leaks or it rains and you accidentally get mud in there. Rubber mats atleast for me and my daily use are a life saver. I plan on buying the JCW mats in a few months, but definitely go with rubber first.

I have to agree with the prior post rubber for wear checks for looks. On my 1st MCS I had carpet mats and longed for the rubber ones however with hindsight I should have oped for the carpet ones again. I hate the fact I clean em and as soon as I step out and back in my interior looks unclean.

In the long run the rubber are better but looks wise unless they are cleaned and armour all'ed they look DUR-TEE!

Can't make-up my mind

I run both carpet with rubber over the top, when I get to a car show I'll pull the rubber ones out & the carpet mats look as new. Now thanks to Annette I have a new set of Coco Mats on the way, I remember them from the 60's as a matter of fact my 67' mini has a set of Coco Mats that still look great, they wear like iron ..........

I love the feel of them. But then again, I have seagrass in large portions of my house so I'm used to the nubby feel of it. Kind of like a foot massage when you walk on it, the mats of course don't get walked on, but I like them.
