MINI card - who's getting it?

So who is applying for the Mini credit card?

http://www.4myminicard.com/

http://motoringfile.com/2006/06/19/m...e-credit-card/
  • Cash back on the purchase of a MINI
  • Additional cash back if the MINI is financed with MINI Financial Services
  • MINI Moolah for service, parts and accessories at MINI dealerships
  • MINI Valet Miles
  • MINI Motoring Gear available at MINIUSA.com
I might get it just for the custom image of your mini on the front

I'd love to get it..but I am not sure about variable APR's.. that's a little scary to me.. If it was a fixed APR..it will be a different story.

I just applied. The only reason I want it is that I am interested in getting another MINI, for me, and it offers cash towards a MINI.

I'll be applying for mine tonight. I never carry credit card debt so an adjustable APR is irrelevant to me.

No credit card debt here either, but I am definetely applying to get this one.
Years ago I used to have the GM card, which had a similar program as the MINI Visa card and purchased 3 GM vehicles with the points accrued. That was a great card to have (That is if you wanted to buy GM products)

Now that MINI is offering a co-branded/rewards credit card, I am definetely jumping on the oppty. We are getting our next MINI in about a year and a half, so we should be able to accrue lots of points by then.

As I read it, it is not like the GM card where you can get money off from the price of the car by applying your points (up to some maximum usually $1000). The points only seem to apply if you lease a MINI or apply for financing through MINI. Am I missing something?
  • MINI Financing Perks let you:
    • Earn up to $5000 back on your next MINI Financial Services loan or lease
    • Receive additional miles on your MINI Financial Services lease
    • Offset excess wear-and-use charges on your MINI Financial Services lease

With gas prices like the ones we have now I welcome anything that will pay to fill up my MINI's tank.

That is great if you lease. But if you buy the car... And remember ALL MINIs come with warenty service etc. Not just those that are financed by MINIFinancial...

Variable APR I will pass. Besides if you don't need multiple credit cards. The card companies may make you think that you need multiples but you don't. Today everyon takes Visa and Mastercard. One card and the burden it brings is more than any one person or one family needs. Multiple cards even if paid in full will pull down your credit scores. And low scores make it difficult to get things that you want, home loan or education loan etc.

The only way I would consider taking the card is if they automatically cut the price of the car by $5k just for possessing the card not having to use the card. Trust me you will owe more than the $5K you can get off the price of a new MINI.

Reality is that everyone needs a debit card, but not everyone needs a credit card. Debit cards eliminate the problems with writing a check, One Credit card is OK to estabilish your credit worthyness and responsibly using it will give you the credit you need to purchase homes etc, but the main problem is that peoply do not responsibly use credit products.

Mmm, this is interesting. I wonder if it would be useful to get if you are getting a new MINI soon. You could put your downpayment on it and get double points, then pay it off the following month and have no interest... What is the cashback thing?

I'm gonna have to read into it in depth first... but since I don't have any credit cards I really SHOULD get one to help raise my credit score some more. I guess if I'm gonna have a card anyway, getting one with my car on it can't hurt right :P

if nothing else, at least you'll be getting a cool customized credit card w/ a picture of your MINI on it. How cool is that? I'll probably not gonna use this card for purchases, but it's a nice thing to show your non-MINI owner friends

You could just use the earned points for a MINI Financial loan on a new car and then get a normal loan through whereever else and use the new loan to pay off the one through the dealer. That way you can get the rate you want elsewhere and still use the money you have built up on the card.

My parents did something similar. They recently got a new car and in order to get all the cash-back incentives and such they had to get the loan through GMAC. Well, they had a loan through GMAC, for a month or two. They got a loan through the local credit union and paid off the GMAC loan.

You can just get the card with your car on it but don't activate it, after about 6 month the card becomes no good, for those people that want the card but don't like the terms.

I admit the initial reaction was to apply, but honestly, I don't need another credit card. The preference is to get a card that'll give you back something and if you have a card that give you back cash, well, that's better than locking into a card that gives you back stuff from only one brand.
