R50/53 To Do List on Car PICKUP day!
To Do List on Car PICKUP day!
Hello.
I am preparing to pick up my MCS in 3-4 weeks and want to do my homework no what to check for.
1. Body work, paint finish, dings/dents.
2. Paint nozel and residue thereof
3. all of the addon's for my order (chromeline interior, anthracite headliner, armrest, etc...)
4. ask for list of programable options (DRL, welcome home lights, etc)
5. seats covering
any other suggestions or ideas?

Somewhere on the forum are a couple of GREAT listings of all the possible programming options for the car - including many things you don't assume programmable. I know I downloaded it at home and will try to reference later.
I messed up in the initial programming and while I got the "convenience opening" for the cabrio, they left the daytime running lights on. However, in the last few months I have decided that I really like the DRLs and feel safer with them - so will hang onto that setting for now.

Attached is a pdf of all the MINI programmable options and their default values. The list is from 2005, so a few things may not be accurate. But it still gives you a general idea of what is programmed if you choose not to change anything.

All too often they do it with dirty (read gritty) water used while watching a batch of cars, and incorrectly use buffing equipment that will leave undesired swirl marks.
Better to inspect for dings, scratches and swirls (can do even when dirty), then take it home, wash it to your liking, claybar, then finish with the wax or polish of your choice, to YOUR satisfaction.
IMHO
Number one thing is to peel off the airbag sticker above the glovebox!
Pop the hood, too. I did, and I saw dried coolant ALL over the engine and the level seemed low. They didn't think anything was wrong, but a few hundred miles the car overheated.
Thanks a lot, MINI of Peabody! Just what I wanted to do to my brand new engine.
You never know what might be messed up; best to take a close look everywhere.
