R50/53 Should a Motoring ID be transferrable?
Should a Motoring ID be transferrable?
Out of Curiousity....
Should a M-ID be considered transferrable? I mean, is it the ID for the car, or the owner? Reason I ask- I'm selling my 2003 MINI Cooper, but buying a 2006 MINI Cooper S. Wondering if I should keep the ID, or get a new ID to go with the new car?
I know in the real since it makes no difference. Just curious what the Motoring ID means to you.

PS: Yes, I did mention I'm selling my 03 MC. If interested, PM for deets.

I think you're over thinking things.
See what the OL does, I bet the ID stays with the owner; I still haven't put mine on Pearl yet, she is Pearl not Whoa-002; but if you want to look me up on the OL you can; but I only use NAM; see how the ID isn't all to important to me.

The Motoring ID is not really tied to the owner, it's tied to the car. Why? Because you have to supply a VIN before you can create a login to the Owner's Lounge. If you had 2 MINIs, and therefore two VINs, you could create two logins on the OL, and have two Motoring IDs at the same time, one for each MINI... if you wanted to.
So at first glance, it appears that when you sell your MINI, the Motoring ID goes with it...
BUT
...before you sell your MINI, you can change the Motoring ID on that Owner's Lounge account to something else... and provided that nobody else "claimed" the Motoring ID you wanted, you could sign up for that same Motoring ID with your new Owner's Lounge account. See, once you change the Motoring ID, the old one is "freed up" for someone else. So in that way, if you work the system right, you could transfer the Motoring ID to your new MINI.
Once you sell your old MINI, you probably should work with the new owner to transfer the old Owner's Lounge account to them... and attach it to their email account, etc.
That's my take on it, anyway.
