Which RunFlat Is Best?

I will be buying new 16" runflats soon.......so is there a 'BEST' 16" runflat. How many manufacturers sell runflats, too. Anyone have an opinion or experience on this. I am talking about regular all around general non racing all weather type of runflats. Thanks

I just bought a used 03' MCS and the guy just put brand new Pirelli 195/45R17's on, matched with the stock web-spokes. I cannot really comment on how they perform (only driven it 50miles) but that is a brand to consider. I did do some motoring today and took some non-tight turns at ~40-50mph in the rain and they seemed like they held...but wanted to slip (the DSC light came on a couple of times...what does that mean? It came on then went off....but I thought it was always on unless you turned it on...[and then the light is on] so in that case, DSC turned itself off?). They DID slip and slide all over the place shifting from ~5.6k RPMS into second!

My brother took one turn at ~40mph around our house, and this turn is pretty tight. At ~40mph at about 60degrees outside, with dry pavement they made pretty good grip and didn't squel or give at all. But, like I said, I've only driven 50miles on them....so my knowledge is very limited.

-Cody

Look luck!

My MCSC came with 17" Pirelli runflats. They have really gripped well & I don't consider the ride too harsh. I am going to give non-runflats a try when I replace them to see if the grass is greener but I have been very happy with the Pirellis

Maybe me too on the non-run flats. My Dunlop 5000 oems gave me only21k miles on the fronts. I never rotated them No complaints about handling or ride.

I read a couple of good things about the Perelli zero nero non runflats. TireRack has them for $112 for 205-55-16.

Anyone else?

Dunlop and Goodyear are the only manufacturers that I know of who offer 16" runflats.

The only all-season choice is the 195/55-16 Dunlop SP Sport 5000A DSST.

I'm on my third set of the Dunlop SP Sport 5000A DSSTs, installed just a little over 2 weeks ago. The first OEM set were changed out at 26K, when I got a super deal on set #2 (thanks YuccaPatrol). I rotated them every 5-6K miles and got about 30,000 miles out of them. I just got the rear swaybar installed at the Dragon by Detroit Tuned (thanks Chad!), and the difference in the runflats' performance is incredible! I stick with the runflats because I do lots of cross-country trips.

Dang I wish I could get that mileage outta mine. I swear I don't burn rubber when I take off . I rotated at 12K (I know shoulda done it sooner ). My rears (former fronts) aren't to the wear bar yet but don't have much left & I am only at 15K.

Others make runflats... I have goodyear winter runflats that are great. There are also Bridgestone Potenza runflats, though I've yet to hear of anyone who's actually used them.

Teresa, it really does make a huge difference to rotate every 5K miles! You'll get lots more wear out of them if you do. I don't burn rubber, either! In fact, I barely squealed a tire on the Dragon...I prefer smooth driving. Remember, I have the 16s. I don't think the Pirellis 17s wear as well as the Dunlops, from what I've read over the past several years...

A big thing about tire wear is what kind of driving you do. I do nearly all freeway (girlfriend lives in ATL!). I have 20000 miles as of today and I have more than half tread left on my 17 inch Dunlops. I do not drive it slowly or calmly when off the freeway either. 20000 miles since I bought the car in August of 2005. I almost forgot, about 4000 of those miles was done on my winter tires.

I'll be buying Goodyear non runflats when these wear out.
