WTB Stock Tachometer

Hey all,

If any of you have an idea where I might be able to purchase a used stock tachometer, I'd really appreciate it! I was attempting to install this gauge kit I purchased and I didn't realize I used the wrong screw when attempting to mount the bracket to the back of the tach. Before I knew it, the screw went through the other side and made a slight hole on the face. I wasn't too concerned about it at first, but after starting my car to insure everything was working, I noticed my RPM doesn't move anymore (although everything else seems fine). Really upsetting, lemme tell ya. I plan on calling the dealership on Monday to see how much it'll cost me to get a replacement tach, but if there was anyway I'd be able to purchase one that was used off a MINI that was perhaps wrecked, that would certainly be even better! (though the idea of a wrecked MINI isn't my idea of a good thing by any means). If any of you have an idea where I might can get one, I'd really appreciate the info. And off chance, does anyone know how much a replacement tachometer costs? I hope not more than a couple hundred dollars. *sigh*

Welcome to NAM!

Well if you go to realoem.com you can getthe part # then give Classic MINI (a dealer in OH) a call and they will give you a NAM dicount. Likely make it cheaper than your local deal.

Hope it all turns out well soon.

BTW if you get the price, could you pass along just how much it is, some of us are doing some DIY experiments and its better to work on a spare in case things go wrong.

Great, thanks a lot for the info! I'll be sure to post the price on Monday when I get a chance to call Classic MINI (as I'm sure their parts/service area is closed on the weekend). Here's hoping it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg! (hmmm... preferably just an arm... I can still manage to steer with just one... otherwise how am I gonna operate a clutch and gas pedal with only one leg )

Does anyone know, off chance, whether the MINI Cooper tach will work with an S? I found a tachometer being sold on Ebay and decided to purchase it, but after looking at the part numbers on realoem.com, I found that they don't match between the Cooper and S. I already decided that I would just give it a shot and see what happens, but it would be nice to know in advance whether this will even work or not. If anyone has some info regarding this, I'd be much obliged to hear from you.
