I have 2002 CVT Cooper with a build in June. When the engine is cold and driving to my first stop the idle drops and the car feels like it is going to stall but then recovers. Has anyone else had the same problem? My Cooper is currently at the MINI of Hawaii dealer for the second time for the same problem. On my first visit about three weeks ago they upgraded the software butI don't know what version.

 

This is a well known and common issue. It IS FIXABLE!

CD #32.1 is evidently the latest software version currently available to dealers. This WILL fix that issue if the entire update is done correctly - this includes the tech driving the car and clearing the DME AND CVT adaption figures, also carrying out the re-learning of the gearbox clutches and re-learning the correct gear change ratios. (Thanks to Here2help from MINI2 for that description).

There is some debate about this, but it is claimed that CD# 32 will also correct the problems - if the update is done thoroughly. (Some claim that CD #32 will not fix the issue - but it remains unclear if the update was applied properly.)

At any rate, the problem is fixable - and dealers should all have 32.1 by now.

Mine was a Nov 2002 build and it didn't have the upgrade. January 2003 builds, maybe??? That's about the time the upgrade became available at the VPC.
