Help! My MINI is Sick!

It all started when I backed my MINI out of my garage this afternoon. Everything ok. I washed it...dried it...ect. Everything ok. I go to start it to pull it back in the garage, and oh no!!! The MINI BEARLY started. Then it would BEARLEY idle. If I tried to rev it at all, nothing. The check engine light is on, the EML Light is on, and the DSC light it on. I turned it off, waited, and then tried it again. Still the same thing.:impatient It is DEFINITLY not drivable. Like, if I were to put it in gear, it would die. BTW, the battery is fully charged. The mod that I have that would even remotly effect is it a CAI. Thats it. I use premium fuel, and it is a MCSa 2005 with 5k miles. What is worng?

Also I didnt wash the engine. I didnt open the hood at all.

So, when you washed it, you didn't like hose the engine bay very hard, did you? The CAI shouldn't mean anything.

No matter what it is, I'd put the stock intake back on before the dealer sees it. No reason to give 'em an excuse.

Maybe it'll clear up when it drys out...if not, it'd take a diagnostic tool to read the code(s)

I cant put the stock one back in. I drilled holes in the back of the air box. I am not worried about that though.

Did you recently install the CAI yourself? And if so, in that process, did you remove the ECU cover and unplug the two connections? If you did, perhaps you need to double-check those to make sure they are fitted in properly. Maybe even unplugged them and inspect to make sure all the pins are straight.

It might not hurt just to look all around and make sure all types of connections are in place and tight.

Maybe as a similar problem, I bought a brand new 1997 Expedition and one day later it went into THEFT mode and I couldn't start it. Without going into the long embarrassing at-the-restaurant story, the problem was diagnosed a week later as a loose add-on security alarm connection. When the dealer prepped it, they plugged one connection in backwards. If I parked with a quick stop looking down a slope it giggled out and deactivated the ignition system. Two days of embarrassment and madness could have been solved by reaching under the dash and simply plugging it in correctly.

I hope your problem turns out to be as simple.

September? Hmmm. Well, I'm out of ideas unless you can think of something else that occurred recently. It may just be a dead computer board or something.

BTW, is the USB Mass Storage Device a photoshop thing, or can I purchase one of those somewhere?

Even if you tried to rev nothing would happen? Or would it limit itself to a certain rev?

I have to say this is a misconception I keep seeing - the majority of the common MCSa problems/potential problems were solved with the software and engine harness recall quite awhile ago (and I honesly do not think they effected anywhere near that high a percentage). Honestly I see more issues with the manuals trannys and throwout bearings, flywheel, software issues, etc nowadays - the engine harness, I think, has even been an issue on the MTs as well.

qwertmoneky, it seems the only thing you can do is have it flatbedded to the dealer (which you've prob done by now) - let us know how it goes. Good luck.

Although the correct thing to do, taking a fairly new car back to the dealer hoots.

qwertmoneky,
Possibly too much water got into your Air-inlet for your supercharger? Im thinking water has poured onto the top of your valve cover perhaps? Almost sounds like water in the piston compartment.
Also...maybe a bit too much water got into your exhaust? Thus flooding your muffler and preventing exhaust to exit...

Just a thought...Im a mini newbe, but have had lots of experience with similar (simple fix) problems with my previous Honda crx and Accords that were 'performance enhanced'

I dont think that "water" got anywhere. I didnt spray it anywhere except the outsides of the car. But, just to let everyone know, it is fixed. I dont know what happened, but she is running now. The next thing to do is find someone to insall my 19% pulley!

Don't you want to maybe take it in and have the issue checked out and documented before you have the pulley installed? It may be a pain but it couldn't hurt to have the problem on record - who knows, maybe they will pull a code or something that might explain things.

Anyway, glad to hear you are up and running

As a side note, I SLIGHTLY let some water slip into the exhaust when I wash it, and my MCS has been running great. As soon as I'm done washing it, I do a couple of quick accelerations to make sure the water is thrown back out of everything.
