[Hawaii] Capitol Rally @ Hawaii State Capitol

[From Mike K. at HawaiiTalks.net]

It's that time again...to show the legislative branch that Oahu motorsports enthusiasts matter! That we have a say!

The Capitol Rally is still on, but has been changed to April 9th from 11AM till 1PM @ the Hawaii State Capitol. Set up time will be 10AM for a limited number of vehicles that have been pre-chosen. We're asking the rest of us to participate by cruising around the state capitol in a friendly and orderly manner, basically the same thing as last year's huge event:

2005 State Capitol Cruise

For those of you that attended last year, you know it was a huge success, and that we had an overwhelming turnout. Let's do it again! Shoe polish your supportive messages on your windshields, make some banners or signs for the press at the rally, bring out your hottest and quickest rides, be it four wheels or two, and help to keep motorsports alive on Oahu.

The entire event will involve promoting the fact that we as motorsports enthusiasts support highway safety...and that means keeping it on the track. Considering that we'll soon be losing our track, this naturally ties in with the support for the new world class facility along with keeping the current track open until the new track is completed.

For most of us on this forum, motorsports is a big chunk of our life, and something we do for the enjoyment we derive from it. We are friends, we are family, and we need to show the state legislature that we matter and that we are important.

Last year was highly successful...let's blow them away by doing it again!

MINI brigade?

I wonder if we can get enough MINIs together to show our support? Last year a few of us (dakinemini, minihune, drea-min, bgrpph, and eastsidemini - even erik808 went solo after us) met and did our best to show our support but I'm hoping that we can generate enough interest to have more MINIs show up to support the racing/track community on Oahu. What do you folks think?

[Edit : We'll be there! : dakinemini (Dirk), pyratio (Keith), bgrpph (Barry), Feedback (Peter), blown-lone-star (Casey), roehrigs01 (Shawn) + the Miata Club (thanks to Shawn)]

Meeting place and time

I was talking to Barry (bgrpph) today and we were trying to figure out a meeting point. He was thinking dealer but the parking sucks there so I was thinking we should meet like at Ward somewhere. I even suggested meeting a little early and having breakfast. Any ideas/suggestions?

rally then car show?

--you guys wanna go to the rally then check out the car show?

Hmm meeting at any parking lot is gonna be tough on a sunday cuz of all the shoppers. Unless we go somewhere like Manoa shopping center and go pig out at Island manapua before we go. Their parking lot always has some room.

Maybe 3rd or 4th floor ala moana parking structure on the sears side? You know the new structure that is connected to Sears top floor? Just a thought. Someplace close to jumping onto beretania would be good.

I'll have to take off after the rally.

If we meet early enough, I don't think any of the Ward lots would be crowded. The rally is from 11am so we can meet like at 9:30am and do breakfast somewhere.

Though manapua sounds good too.

House bill got killed and the Senate bill passed but we can not let up. The rally is still on. I talked to Keith and Barry a little about this but we are thinking about meeting in the Ward parking lot around or before 10am (to beat the crowd and sit for some coffee or Jamba). I am thinking that we should park at the big lot in front of the theatre (makai side across the street). What do you folks think?

I think they are referring to the parking lot across from the ward theaters and Dave & Busters???

I know the Miata Club folks are looking to ban together also... They are currently hashing out a meeting place.. I told them the Mini Club is meeting at ward so we might all be meeting up together...

REMINDER!!!

Announcement!
Directly after the rally, @ 2PM, a large majority of the supporters for the World Class Facility will be heading down to Dave & Busters located in the Ward Entertainment Center. We're inviting everyone to join us as we'll be hanging out to talk story, and touch base with everyone that's pushing for this facility. If you have questions, that would be a great time to ask, otherwise, we just want everybody to get together, have a good time, and celebrate motorsports on Oahu.

We'd love to get the chance to get know everyone that supports the WCF...so come on down, have a drink, play some games, and just have a good time. If enough people turn up, we'll most likely have the third floor opened up for us. If you have any questions or concerns, give me a yell at webmaster@hawaiitalks.net

I know I'll be there...I hope to see you there as well.
Thanks!

Here's the planned cruised route:

I was thinking of the parking lot in front of D&Bs (as Roehrigs01 said). I think the Sports Autority one is always packed.

Looks like a lot of clubs/groups are meeting at the park so it may not be good.

I still think the lot in front of D&Bs would be best. I'll be there around 9:30am and pick a corner. It'd be cool if we could drive-in with the Miata folks too.

Let me know what you think though. I'm flexible.

I always use a "Dry paint pen". You can pick one up for a few bucks at Ben Franklin. They come in all sorts of colors too!

I don't think I can make the rally (I work), but I am going to try to be there for the D&B stuff. If I do make it down I'll bring the photos for the 2 members that purchased 'em (from Superlap Series).

Bill Y. posted the Miata club link on Hawaii Talks. I have white window marker but I'll see if I can go to Walmart and get another color of the better stuff (easier to come off). Roehrigs01 - thanks for uniting the MINIs and MIATAs for this cause!

I got a new thing of white window stuff and even got a red one today. I'll be helping the Tom at Race Events Hawaii get the Formula Hawaii car ready and loaded on the trailer for the Rally tomorrow morning but I am planning to be at the Ward parking lot at 9:30 am so I'll see you folks there.
