SIRIUS and alarm install?

I did a search on the sirius install and didn't find what I'm looking for. I just ordered the OEM sirius sat. receiver, antenna, and install kit for my '05 MCS with H/K. Can any install shop install this or is it best to take it to the dealership? I've read that the alarm is pretty easy so I'm hoping that the same shop that installs the Sirius can do the alarm. Also, when I ordered the factory alarm I was told I needed the light switch and not the wiper stalk. I took their advice even though I'd heard of ppl using the wiper stalk option instead.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the alarm?

Alarm was $156 and the light switch required for complete installation was about $90. All parts purchased through Classic MINI.

So, $246.00 and then the installation at $120/hr? I'm assuming it wouldn't take them over an hour to install. I'll go check it out. Thanks for the info!

One dealership quoted me 4 hours for both the alarm and Sirius installed at a rate of $100/hour.

4 hours?? Give me a break! I garage this bad-boy anyway and I don't drive it that much, so I may just pass on the alarm.

Alarm takes about an hour to install if you go slowly. Its just plugging into wires that already exist. Then you have to go to the dealer to have your car programmed for it.

That's kind of what I figured. I really wouldn't mind having an alarm, but I don't want to get robbed by the dealer first.

I had the aux input installed for "their cost" for $90/hr and paid cost for the input. I didn't mind paying for that. Maybe they'll (Irvine, CA Mini) take care of me again.

exactly what I did on my 06... installed the siren, stalk and pressure sensor... no problems... took to mini for activation... out in an hour...

Ok. Has anyone even heard of a light switch being used with the alarm instead of the wiper stalk?

Factory Alarm install in '06 Cooper S Convertible

I apologize if this has been covered. I have searched high and low - and could not find an answer!

I see lots of information on a hatchback install but nothing on the Convertible.

I noticed that the Alarm is more expensive ($320 from Classic) for the Convertible. I saw some threads stating that the install is more complex, but no details on how to do it. The dealer wants $850 installed, is this something I can handle?

Thanks!

Alex

Amarzano check out this install PDF and see if you can handle it. Its a bit harder then the hardtop install.

Thank you - I am checking it out!

Seems like the big difference is the sensors in the door.. that must be the added cost in the kit as well..

I also started a new thread on this - sorry about that.. :-)
