Rear Window scratches

Hey All,

Anyone know of a service bulletin number for the rear window scratches? Mine are scratched and last night when at the dealer (for wiper bladed) I spoke ot the service writer. They ordered new windows for me about 6 months ago and we both agree that it's a waste of $$ to replace them without fixing the problem.

Are you talking about the rear passenger and driver side windows.... 'cuz I have crescent-shaped scratch marks on those.

And no, I haven't heard of any bulletin.

Yep. It's caused by something internal on the roof mechanism. I thought others said they go away with proper adjustment to the mechanism, but since there is not a bulletin I don't want the dealer take my time and theirs to keep replacing windows.

My understanding is that this is a well known issue called "scalloping". I thought I remember reading that it is covered by warranty. It had something to do with the way the top comes down after the rear windows automatically roll down.

I'm still under 36,000 miles so I know it's covered, but I was hoping that it be fixed permanantly and correctly the first time. Speaking with the service writer, we're both under the understanding that the windows will be replaced after salt season, I was just hoping to not have to have repeated appointments.

Replacing the windows is only one part of the solution. The other is FIXING the convertible that is causing the problem.

Yep... That's what I'm looking for. A fix for the problem. I'm only the second person that's reported the problems (so they say) at Classic MINI/BMW Service.

Maybe at Classic but world wide it is a documented issue with MINI. I would contact MINIUSA. It doesn't sound like Classic has a proper handle on the issue.

I don't have any rear window problems, but there has been a service advisement to have the top "adjusted". They told me this and did it when I brought it in for my 1st checkup. Apparently they're not going to make it publically known.

Convertible top & rear windows replaced in Sept 05. I've had no problems with either since My dealer had a bulletin on the rear windows & said there was a mechanism inside the rear window panels that was causing the problem. I guess they knew what they were talking about!

Hmmm... I had my top replaced in august 2005 so hopefully the drop-top mechanism was fixed. I think I'll bring this up my dealer during my 10k.

thanks for bringing this to my attention ThomB! I have recently noticed the markings but I have really never addressed it.

I have the same problem - the crescent shaped scratches on my back windows. If anyone knows the bulletin number, that would be awesome.

This thread died in 2006 with a fix?
I have the mini next warranty and its in the dealer for some other issues right now. If possible I'd like to fix this as I want to tint the windows. The service advisor said there was nothing they could do and seemed surprised to see it when I was asking about it. Can anyone help with the bulletin number
Thanks,
Donna

No worries, MINI NXT won't cover it, or my boot wiring that failed and they had to do some negotiating with BMW Canada to cover the airbag sensor that failed in the passenger seat.

Not impressed with MINI NXT
