How often do you see yourself on the road?

I'm a bit frustrated this morning. When I got my '06 PW/B MCS in November, I swear, I had never seen that color combination on a MCS in this town... in fact, I rarely saw another Mini in this town.
Last week, I was driving to one of the facilities that I work at and have to commute to, close to my main office. Going down the road at an intersection I'm stopped at, with her eyes glued to the front, is a woman in a PW/B MC that I had never seen in that section of town before. I didn't get a chance to wave and she was oblivious to me.
This a.m., like at 6:40 a.m., I'm on my 5 mile commute to work that I've followed daily for the last couple of years. I pretty much see the same cars every morning - but not this morning! 2 cars ahead of me, and oblivious to my presence, was a (I think '06) PW/B MCS.
I immediately try to catch up to this one so I can wave but I end up with 2 pickup trucks side by side in front of me and between me and my twin. I was getting pretty frustrated.... I mean, this town has picked up more Minis, but no one connects! Whoever was driving, I think a she, was going at a nice clip and I had to do some fancy maneuvering in traffic before I could get close to the car. Right when I get to where I could possibly get up beside my twin, the car takes a right at an intersection. All I could do was blow my horn and hope the owner saw me wave in the rear view mirror.
This probably does not seem a big deal to you in bigger urban areas but I live in a section of Florida that is sandwiched between two regional clubs - both are a couple of hours driving distance from Tallahassee. It would be nice to associate with LOCAL Mini owners that you didn't have to drive a few hundred miles to see, get together with for events, and get group support with in an area that doesn't have a dealer any closer that 160 miles.

I have a MCS05 Chili Red/Black and have only seen two, one was a MCS and the other was a MC..... They were not 05's so maybe you could say 0 !

And none with the same wheels !!!

Wow, you know, it's almost like a mystical experience to see yourself on the road at that time of the morning when seeing another car exactly like yours is the last thing you expect to see. I didn't get a good look at the wheels but I do think the wheels were the 17" Sport Package type, which I don't have so that does takes some of the weirdness factor away.

I wonder if this is a good omen, or bad??? It was like one of those dreams where your chasing after something in the long corridor but it manages to just stay out of your reach.

Okay. Some of you mystical types help me out on this....

I'm beginning to think nobody has one like mine.

And I don't just mean in my area, I mean in the continental US!

I'm OK with that though .

It's pretty darn rare and I like it that way. There was one CR/CR in Indy and there is a CR/CR MC here in Atlanta that I saw the other day. That's all I've seen in 2 years with a MINI.

Once my new rims are on, never.

Hey there newcom - I feel your pain! I'm in a section of Florida that is sandwiched between 3 regional clubs, and 9 out of 10 Mini drivers in Daytona don't even see me on the road. That's why I took the initiative over at SunshineMinis and started up a regional club myself - DAMM (Daytona Area Mini Motorists.) We've got 4 active members in the ~2 months that we've been working on a club (actually 2 are husband-wife teams, so that adds more members) and potential for many more as we continue to hand out cards & leave them on parked Minis. It's going to be slow-going at first, but if you put in some effort and talk with those that you do connect with, you can make it happen in Tallahassee too. Get active on SunshineMinis.org and try to stir up as many inactive SSM members in your area that you can!

And speaking of twins... you'll notice an active NAM member here who goes by "Motor On"... he's been very active in helping me get DAMM off the ground, and we both have '05 Jet Black/Black MCS's... what are the odds?

Well I would love to meet any one who has a same color as mine but it's going to be very hard SG is a rare color even more rare since I have a SG/SG. But it just makes me feel that mine is more special.

I just followed myself for about 20 miles on Saturday. Other than that, I've only seen myself maybe 3 times in the past year.

Minivader -

I have talked to a couple of other NAM members about this possibility.... I even have a name. Since Tallahassee is located in the arm pit of Florida, how do you think, Arm Pit Minis of Florida, sounds?

zuesboy-

Even if there is another MCSc like yours in the US... there isn't one with that name! That is great! There is nothing I like better than to crank up some Hendirx on my H/K sound during my drives to Panama City.

When I got Ms. Kitty, PW/PW roof MC, there were several others in town that were almost the same...whenever one of them got pulled over, I got a lot of e-mails from friends and co-workers razzing me about the cute cop that was checking out my car and asking me for my autogragh. Now, with Ducky, PH/Red "checkmate MCF, there is no more confusion....Mick

I’m one of the people who are in one of those regional clubs a few hours from you. I had my MCS nearly 2 years before I saw ANY other MINI in my town let alone the same color.

I know for a fact Tallahassee has a number of MINI people because they post here and on Sunshine. As Minvader said, you might try to think of a name, print some cards and seek out other MINIs in the area to place them on. All things start slow, but once you get a couple people showing interest also placing cards on MINIs it should grow fast if they wish to meet other MINI folk.

My dealer said I was the first Cooper (non-S) with the new silver swoop that they had seen. I think I've got some time before I run into another BRG/S.

Only very randomly. I see a lot of PS/Bs and LY/Bs and of course the old CR/W or B! Very few of us out here in the Inland Empire driving IB/W.

In the area I live, there are maybe 10 MINIs at the most.....5 of those are PW/B. Of course there's a mix of stripes/no stripes, MC/MCS, but as far as friends and family are concerned it's "That car is just like yours!"

I've seen only two of myself (sort of) in San Jose: MC BRG/W W/mirror caps no stripes, MCS BRG/W W/mirror caps W/stripes. Neither waved

I think she may have seen your car loved it and said "I want that exact car". Quite a few people lack the creativity or emotional intelligence to make a unique choice.
I don't know what other explanation there can be for one popping up so close to you.

Yep, I am one of those people...somewhere, maybe a MINI site, I saw a checkmate. Didn't realize I could get it that way. I ordered a Purple Haze with white roof and mirrors and had everything white painted red and added a red checkered pattern on the front quarter panels. I am a Red Hatter and am in love with the combo...not too flambouyant, just right. I don't think there is another anywhere just like mine.... Mick

PW/B is (if I say so myself) an elegant color combination, I'm sure other people of extremely good taste are drawn to it. Oh, the one thing that was a killer, this PW/B had black bonnet stripes, just like mine.

It does lead to the problem of having a "unique" Mini. I have done two subtle things to mine.... put a black hood scoop in and changed the gear shift ****, but now it seems I'll have to get creative.

.....I wonder how much of a hassle it would be to mount steer horns on the bonnet?

Purple Haze cooper with silver roof and chrome. Haven't seen another one yet.

I did see a BRG/white with factory roof rack the other day (like my husband).

I have yet to see my exact car on the street in person (knocks on head). CR/B with stripes, aero kit, and x-lites. I have seen it on the internet.

If/when I see it in person, I'l be pumped up and disappointed at the same time.

I've seen my twin twice. It is eery when I do see it; I always feel like I'm in the twilight zone. I realize my color combo isn't that rare (Hyper blue/black with stripes) but there aren't that many MINIs in my area.
