Musty Smell from Vents

Sometimes when I start my MINI, I get a smell from the vents that smells kind of damp/musty.. and at times almost smells like old cigarettes (I don't smoke.. and nobody ever has in my car). This smell will go away after a few minutes.

Any thoughts?

try replacing or removing the cabin filter located under the glove box. You just need to pry the four tabs that hold it in place and the cover comes right off. My car stunk to high heavens also, then I just ripped that filter out. No more issues. About 12oz lighter too.

If the smell is "moldy", then it could be condensation in the AC ducts. It's a common occurance and if you do a Google search you'll find many possible fixes. I remember disinfectant spray being a particularly cheap solution.
