JCW or regular S

Hey guys! Everyone has been a great help so far! Thanks for all your comments on past posts! The only thing I have left to deside is whether or not to get the JCW package! There are many reasons I want to get it and those have been said over and over in past posted already! The only thing holding me back is the price! I really dont feel comfortable doing my own mod's and most likely wont if dont get the JCW package. What are your thoughts on it? Im on the fence! please help me out! Your experiences and opinions would be great! Any that have switched from the S to JCW? Was it worth it? Do you regret it? THANKS!

i have a S (there were no JCW packages available at the time) and i do not
intend on 'upgrading' to the JCW. just not worth it to do afterwards.

so you should get the JCW from the beginning if you're already thinking
about it.

I was in the exact same situation, opted for the JCW as I'm a fairly speed speed/performance junky.

I got it from the very beginning, and I like it. Since you're getting an 06, get it from the factory and get the brakes thrown in for the same price as my dealer installed kit without the brakes.

I wouldn't go with the JCW, as one anonymous person who works for MINI told me: "The only JCW part that is worth the money is the exhaust, everything else, you can get better for cheaper." Get the exhaust, get a CAI from Alta or K&N, then get down to helix, have them fix you up with a reduction pulley/new exhaust etc and a few grand later you'll be putting ~200HP. I think it's worth it and more fun when you can choose your own parts.

But hey, this is your car, and every single one is different, do what you want

yep you're buying piece of mind, ease, and knowing everything will work/be installed correctly (and if it's not I can toss my keys at the dealer).

But no doubt you're paying for that, and paying heavily which I didn't mind at all.

If you're not willing to take it to a shop and tell them to 'upgrade' your MINI then you're probably better off with the JCW. I personally am and was willing to do some of the installation myself so I didn't get the JCW, but if you need the power and are unwilling to take it to a shop, get the JCW option, much cheaper than if you retrofit it.

Well I can tell you this, the JCW exhaust isn't all that great My car is a JCW and having 4 exhausts on this car to date stock,Borla Race,JCW,and Invidia the Borla keeps calling me back. I may get the WMS exhaust when it is done. JCW is just not worth the cost. Just my opinion based on same car results not just sound clip files.

Miniotaple can't even put a ss right J/K

If i buy another one, it will be JCW for my comfort, modding your MCS aftermarket is an exciting adventure, you get more for less, but next time i will not need adventures

Beware the hypocrits, my son. Many who will criticize the JCW as over-priced who don't think twice about paying $150 for a shift ****, $1200 for "leather" upholstery, or $2000 for wheels. But, unfortunately, the factory JCW is an extremely expensive proposition, as it requires addition of at least the Sport package for a total cost of $7700 over a base car. Cheapest route would be to spec a base car with LSD from the factory and get your dealer to install the engine kit. You should be able to do that for ~$27k.

Dude, all about the adventure. If I get a couple of cuts and smashed thumbs, that's just the cost.

I know there's a lot of Top Gear watchers here and they'll remember a guy named Randolph Fines, who ran 7 marathon in 7 days on 7 continents. He also went across the south (north?) pole UNASSISTED (i.e. - he carried all his own supplies, imagine a guy with a sled strapped to his back). He ended up losing some digits to frostbite, but it's the adventure that is interesting.

I also have never gotten to work on cars so I figured the MINI would be a good platform. I don't want to go throughout life not knowing the simplest things about cars. I also figured I should learn to drive a manual, thus the 6-speed instead of the auto. And I intend on riding a motorycycle because I'm getting tired of having all my limbs intact, but that's my cup of tea.

The JCW package is some other people's cup of tea. Like that transition?

Speaking of JCW, has anybody seen dynos on '05-'06 JCWs? I'm just curious. I mean if the '05-'06 MCS cars are stronger, we can only assume that the JCWs are stronger as well. Morgan put down over 160whp out of the box. JCWs must be putting out nearly 200whp.

The only reason I'm saying that is because my car put down 157.8whp to a claimed 168bhp. Applying that ratio (i.e. - 157.8 / 168) to 210, the JCW should be about 2-3whp short of the 200whp mark. Just flinging **** around and hoping none of it hits the fan.

JCW if you don't have a good mechanic or the $$$$ to mod. JCW can be in your car loan others can't.

Seriously though how many here honestly say they can drive a standard MCS to its full potential and need the extra hp to shed some time at the track?

It about perception and what you want.

Really want to go faster? Track time/classes will do far more than a pulley or JCW.

^^ nice point, the mods will only make you feel fast, are you really fast, questionable. Keep one thing in mind modding is a hobby, a passion more than trying to be faster on track.
