Navigation & Audio 03 Nav + aux + iPod adapter?
03 Nav + aux + iPod adapter?
With the help of Great Bear I was able to combine my nav and aux harness and make it all work together, but now I have another question. I heard that it was not possible to use the ipod adapter if you have the nav. Is it either possible to make the ipod adapter work with the nav in this same way, or is it possible to make the ipod adapter work with the nav sacrificing the nav audio?
I put an iCruize in my 02 Mini with Navigation, it just replaces the CD Changer input, and you have to connect it into the "Data Bus", 12v, accessory, & ground. Both iPod & Navigation still come through Stereo.

Is the iCruize different than the factory Ipod adpapter though? That is what I am asking about specifically.
As I understand it... All iPod Controls replace the functionality of the CD Changer, thus according to this diagram from Mini2

The IPod adaptor plugs into CB891-B and replaces the CDC LR-, CDC L+ and CDC R+ wires. Ergo, no more CD Changer.
But that is also for the Pre-2003 Models. Not sure on the Post 2003 connections, since don't have a diagram for their pin-outs, though I would "assume"
that since the Monster Cable don't specify a different connection setup for an 05 compared to my 02, that it's similar.

I have an '03 MCS with factory single in-dash CD Boost HU, factory NAV (dvd, not cd), and I want to add *any* IPOD adaptor. I cannot get a definitive answer from the local audio "specialist". Can anyone with the same set up please tell me what actually worked for you? I am at my wits end :-/
Can't say that I have the "Same" configuration as you, though I am an 02 with Navigation... I have a friend who owns a high-end & custom Car Stereo installation shop, and according to him....
0) Pull the fuse(s) to the Stereo (Do Both of them or just the constant and leave the keys out of ignition!!!)
1) get access to head-unit. Remove center console. Pull up on the side mirror control (watch for loose clips) remove the 2 screws in the cup holders, remove the 2 screws under the side mirror control. Remove driver side knee bolster, remove 4 screws for down tubes. Remove foam under tubes. slide tubes out & place aside.
2) remove head unit. (remove 4 t-15 screws and pull head unit towards you. un-clip antenna, remove the B & C clips (they're the white ones) and remove the big black clip by lifting the handle. Place head-unit aside.
3) Use T-clips or solder and heat-shrink tubing, connect ground (big Brown wire), 12v constant (Red/Brown), 12v accessory (Purple/Blue), and the i-bus data (white/red/yellow) for the iCruize wires (follow the directions they give you for which wires. (Note, you'll connect two wires to the Ground.)
4) Test the iPod by connecting up the radio and plugging the iPod into the "B" connection and your Navigation back into the "C". Plus in fuses, turn on head-unit, switch Mode to CD Changer, play iPod music, test track controls through MSFW. Turn off.
5) Mount the iCruze where the parts will fit. I used extra strength double stick tape and mounted the Black box against the knee bolster, and the metal box is up against the dash beam. iPod is in the glove compartment
6) Reassemble Stereo, dash board, glovebox, tunes, center console, and mirror controls. Make sure you have no extra bits left over.
7) Drive and feel good that you didn't spend $100 to have someone else do the install.

The Mini Cooper 02-05 have the same head-unit connections as the BMW of the same years, thus you would use the same CDC connections for all Minis.
So, if you wanted to buy an iCruze from Monster, your install would go identical to mine...0) Pull the fuse(s) to the Stereo (Do Both of them or just the constant and leave the keys out of ignition!!!)
