Best/Worst Options

I'm going to be ordering a new MCS within a month and I was wondering...

What options would you not order again, and which options do you regret not ordering on your MINI?

Thanks!

Would not order again:
  1. Any "premium" MINI wheel (AKA boat anchors)
Regret not getting?

I regret not ordering the red octagon cloth/leather seats. Yes, with BRG.

No regrets with what I DID order.

I'm going to second Chows- no need for MINI wheels... go aftermarket!

OOOO the anthracite headliner... As I learned, aftermarket headliner = expensive!

OOOO get the xenons!! they are AMAZING!

Good luck!

Would order again:
Rear fog light. The extra toggle switch fills up the dash panel. It's also handy in foggy weather!

Chrome line interior. It's a personal taste; to me the chrome bits brighten up the interior while maintaining a retro look.

Web spoke wheel. I know, they are "boat anchors," but I like 'em and they're OEM.

I'd skip the sunroof if I ever found myself buying a new MINI.

Chrono pack - love the gauges and the look. MFSW - love the radio controls. Fourth year of maintenance - don't think it needs anything but the oil change so I wouldn't do it again.

Any specific reasons you don't like the sunroof?

can't live without:

Anthracite Headliner (for those that enjoy the subtle M\\ shoutout)
Chrome in and out
Red octagon seats
LSD
6-speed manual
Premium pack
Cold weather pack
Rear fog
Sport pack (ditch the s-lites though - they're the Toyota Camry of MINI wheels)
Any of the 18" MINI wheels

I have frameless eyeglasses and the sun tends to tag the edge of them through the sunroof and create an awful bright spot about 1" from my eye. It's not a big deal most of the time, but on long road trips, I'd like to be able to block out the sun from coming through the top. With the cover just being mesh, I need to keep a piece of poster board in the back seat for when I want to block out the rays.

I regretted getting the automatic climate control in my first MC, so I ditched it in my new one, and I couldn't be happier!

If I could only have one option, it would be a close call between the sport seats (standard on MCS) and sunroof.

And if I bought ten MINIs, I'd get leatherette every time. Can't say enough good things about it!

First car 04 all three packages, HK & leather less the 17" wheels.

Second 06 car cold weather, convenience package & leather. LSD, xenon's, front fogs anthracite headliner, HK & MFSW.

I don't miss the sunroof, my helmet always banged into the lip. LSD is the best. I liked the 2 spoke radio controls beter then the new 3 spoke wheel.

Totally Avoid: Anthracite headliner (JUST KIDDING people )

I would never give up the Xenons because they are awesomely cool, I would never give up the sunroof because it's huge and also cool, I would never give up the multi-function wheel and cruise.

I regret not getting the H/K sound.

Premium and Cold Weather=Awesome
HK=Awesome

Pretty hard to go wrong with the packages. I would steer clear of anything bigger than 16" wheels though- the ride is stiff enough!

Make sure you get front and rear foglights, both for the extra toggles and so you won't have ugly plastic plugs where the lights should be. You might even use the foglights at some point.

The MFSW is a must cause at some point you or the next owner is gonna want cruise control...also the lack of cruise reduces the Blue Book value and resaleability of your MINI.

Not much else matters IMO.

Oh and S-lites... an extra set in the boot. Helps create 50/50 weight distribution

Seriously how about this:

Options I can't live without but can't get in the US:

Electric folding mirrors
Recaro Seats

The only options I didn't get are:
Automatic Transmission (never, unless my health fails)
Navagation (I don't take many road trips and I like the center speedometer)
Chrono Pack Gauges

I honestly wouldn't want to give up anything on my car. I like all of the goodies it has. If I was forced to sacrifice anything, I guess it'd be the Park Distance Control. It's OK, but not spectacular. I got it to help me back the car when there's cargo in the boot. (My mother is confined in a wheelchair, and I had thought that it'd fit sitting upright in the boot with the seats up and the shelf removed, but it won't.)

The options that I absolutely would NOT give up are:
Xenon Headlights
Front and Rear Foglights
Heated Seats
Convenience Package
Euro Parcel Shelf

Some people love an el Strippo, but I had quite enough of that crap growing up...no A/C, no power windows, etc...no thanks

JCW is nice, but expensive and half of the fun of the car is getting to know it, modding it, and getting to know it. I'd pass on JCW and take your time with it unless you're willing to pay the price for warranty.

LSD . . . GET IT.
HK . . . it's a waste on me. I haven't listened to my HK in the last 3 months- my car sounds so damn good without it and I like being able to hear my shifts.
Xenons . . . only if you're a stud (or want to be one).
Backup park sensors . . . they're standard on my cabrio and I LOVE them.
Cold weather package . . . heated seats are from heaven.

I don't know if I'd get the automatic climate control again. It's gorgeous, but it takes LONGER to change the temperature. It's cold and you'd like it to be warm- expect to be holding that little **** for 10 second before it's on high heat. :P but it's gorgeous . . .

Advice: Get what you think you'll want and don't be stingy with your options. You'll love 'em.

cheers

The Cold Weather Package is the only "must have" option
