iPod problem

I have the H/K system with a dealer installed IPOD connector. My problem is that the IPOD will skip back to the 1st song after a varied amount of songs have been played (but never gets past about 30 songs) or almost everytime when I try to advance it. While in Random mode it will play fine until I try to advance it and then it goes back to the 1st song. The IPOD itself plays fine by itself, never going back to the 1st song while advancing the selection. It is a 20Gb IPOD with about 10K songs. I brought it back to the dealer and he said the connection is fine and that it is the IPOD, maybe a disk error. I have formated the disk and reloaded the songs and it still does this. Any solutions or thoughts?
Thanks,
Gary

I have seen this problem occured on my oem ipod adapter. I have the regular sound system. But this problem you mentioned is very very rare and very very hard to reproduce.

Most of the time, I'm playing in random mode. Since random mode resets to regular mode everytime I start the car. I push the random button almost everytime I start the car and drive for 30 minutes. (if you figure a way to make it stay in random mode, let me know)

Only when I'm listening to podcast, do I have this problem. I would be listening to the end of my 14th podcast and then suddenly jumps back to 1st podcast instead of 15th. The problem is so rare that it doesn't really bother me too much because I'm listening to random all the time.

Here's a rather odd question that arose after encountering a similar problem with my iPod. How does one tell the difference between a dealer installed H/K radio/CD unit and a factory issued regular system. Is there some type of branding on the actual radio unit that differentiates it? Thanks all!

The HU is the same regardless. The HK upgrade consists of an AMP/DSP and speakers.

Do you have a playlist selected (#1 thru 5) or the full library (playlist 6 aka 'disc' 6 on the buttons)? I was thinking that perhaps you have only one playlist selected and its just coming to the end of the songs in there vs the full library. I always have it on 6/random and it hasn't been an issue for me.

GaryT -

I can say that you're not alone with this problem. I had my Ipod interface dealer-installed less than a week ago and have experienced it without fail every time I've attempted to jump ahead or back more than say... 3 tracks at a time; either from the steering wheel controls or from the head unit itself.

For a split second, on any designated playlist (MINI1-5 and even MINI6 and 7 - this is the list that appears on the screen after having listened to the Ipod on headphones and then connecting it to the car) the track # that I attempt to jump ahead to appears and plays just briefly, then the system hiccups and reverts to TR01. The same happens in any mode (RND, MAN, +/-10...20... etc., SCAN). Oddly enough also, when holding down the RND button, the RPT function does not appear, as stated that it should in the User's Manual.

Frustratingly and repeatedly but without luck, I've read through the manual thinking that I'd missed something. I'm using the latest version of iTunes and have made sure that my iPod is set up correctly, thereby trying to eliminate any possible error on the iPod end.

I was so looking forward to and even waited to have this install done at 10,000 miles (my first trip back to the dealer for the oil change) but am now thinking that it wasn't worth it, nor worth the money.

I've set up an appointment to have it looked at on Friday (the 3rd) and should have no problem reproducing the symptoms when I get there. I'll let you know the results when it comes back.

Any luck on your end?

IPOD Problem

To answer Val:
No, I am not using playlists and have made sure the Disc 6 button is selected. Still no change

To answer Bavariasian:
This has been very frustrating as I cannot play an album or what I want to hear at that time. The interesting thing is when it fails to advance it gets the "CD Check" message on the radio, it almost seems to forget the IPOD is hooked up. I am having the dealer look at it again this Monday, 3-06, and will ask them to just replace the adapter this time. I will let you know the results.

If you see CD Check when using the iPod, then it is absolutely 100% a connection issue. One of the plugs are bad, possible even the dock connector from the adaptrer, or the dock connector on the iPod.

Those are the two you can see try cleaning them? Lint is a killer on the iPod dock connector.

My shuffle won't play on my aux jack. My Sales rep used to work at the apple store, and confirmed it would work on any mp3 player.

Does the shuffle lack power required to punch through? I finally figured out the aux volume option, but still the shuffle won't play right. Anybody know if it can work or definitely won't work? thanks

Hmm, but I thought you had to use playlists for it to work correctly?

I went ahead and made the MINI1-5 playlists as directed, but only use the "6th" one since it then plays all of them. I don't know but perhaps it is having problems recognizing the storage structure w/o the playlists.

I had that same notion; that maybe it was having trouble recognizing an iPod that didn't have proper playlist formatting, etc. Which is why I went back to iTunes on my PC and MADE SURE that all of my lists were formatted properly MINI1-MINI5 (as instructed in the manual). No change.

I'm still having the same problem with the system going back to track 1 regardless of the playlist I'm on. Similarly to GaryT, the "CD Check" message appears on the head unit display, but only momentarily before skipping back to track 1 and then displaying "TR01".

GaryT, does the "CD Check" message stay on your display?

The Shuffle works just fine with the AUX port. Check the cable.

No, you do not have to use playlists. You can connect any iPod and press 6 to play the whole library that is on the iPod.

Welp, it is worth trying out I think anyway, to see if it changes the way it works. Per Apple "When your iPod or iPod mini is connected to your BMW vehicle, the iPod adapter scans all available BMW playlists." Then the playlists are allocated to preset buttons with the last one being everything on the iPod, so *maybe * having the playlists will somehow help him get past the 30 song limit mentioned in the first post. Again, I don't know, but in the spirit of experimenting and bug testing I'd give it a shot

Edit: The CD check issue was not in the first post so I was not taking that into account - it certainly indicates an issue. I think mine also goes back to track one once reconnected and I just hit random, then advance and it seems back on track, so to speak.

Problem fixed

Took the car back to the dealer. They installed a new IPOD Adapter and it now works great. Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

Does anybody have a problem with your iPod not going to sleep once you've properly disconnected it from your MINI?

The screen will stay on until I manually select something on the iPod.
