XM Set up on rag top...

Does anyone have experience with non factory installed XM (or SIRIUS)? Got a Roadie II for Christmas. Came up with a nifty device to hold the unit itself which fits in the cupholder. However, I'm thinking that I'd like to hardwire the output in the H/K system (instead of using an FM frequency), and I'd like a permanent antenna instead of placing the portable antenna on the dash. Anyone with advice would be appreciated.

PS. Though the H/K system is satisfactory with the top up, it's sadly underpowered when the top is down. A minor annoyance.

I picked up the AUX input and that seems to work just fine with my Roadie XT. As far as the antenna goes, I have mine stuck to the boot and ran the wire through the boot under the back seats and then up to the center stack via the center console. The reception could be better at times, but for now it's okay. I gave up, probably a bit early, trying to figure out how to route the antenna wire from above the windshield to the interior.

Funny, I think the H/K system is more than sufficient with the top down.

I have the Sirius Plug n Play. I also found a mounting that fits on the pillar on the internet.(I'll find the website). I hid the wires & simply ran the antenna out the ragtop. It sits next to the regular antenna. The only draw back is I had to get a double adaptor for the power connector in case I need another outlet. I'll take a picture of my mounting & post it.

I've got a Sirius portable. I'm still using FM, but a $40.00 trip to the MINI dealer would get the AUX adapter.

As for the antenna, I too have mine mounted next to the stock FM antenna. I put the wire into the trim over the windshield, all the way to the drivers door, into that trim then down under the knee bolster to the center of the car.

I've got the receiver zip tied to the front of the cup holder. Seems to work ok. I'm waiting for someone to create a mount that will attach to the drivers side pillar sort of like the cup holder does to the passenger side.

I installed my XM last month. First of all I installed the antenna next to the regular antenna and routed the wire into the car under the antenna base. If you pop out the interior light you can unbolt the antenna and route the wire inside the car. Then you can route the wire under the seal to the drivers side pillar. I then removed the drivers side visor and the drivers side door seal, this allowed me to route the wire to the drivers kick panel and then across to the center console. My XM radio is mounted with a bracket that is bolted to the stock super charger pulley and it sits nicely in my cup holder.

Another XM Option is using an XM Direct receiver with a Blitzsafe adapter. You can then control XM through your headunit and see the station, artist and song on the display (no scrolling though) Here is an install guide I did just to give you an idea.

I used the blitzsafe adapter and find it works wonderfully well. My xm antena is next to my normal one.
