Is it possible to get from anywhere to Carlsbad by 7:30 PM? Every night I see all those poor souls lined up in The Merge, trudging northward ever so slowly...

 

haha - I can get there after work... Traffic will be slower by then.

Either way, there are a number of people in North County as well...

 

I do this commute every night and yes it is possible. I will share with you a few of my secrets...

1. There is a website you can check at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist11/d11tmc/sdmap/mapmain.html that will provide real time traffic updates on all the San Diego freeways. If you hit the merge when the HOV lane or Carmel Valley is still in the red, traffic will be backed up past the merge and you are looking at a long painful commute. Once these areas move into the yellow and green, the traffic is much better and the merge will only take about 10-15 minutes to get through. (another tip, keep to the right) I always check this website before I leave the office.

2. As an alternate. I usually leave the office at 6:00 - 6:15 and exit at Genesee, then take the coast route through Del Mar. Get back on at Lomas Santa Fe and you will miss all the merge traffic. Not to mention the coast is a much nicer drive. Beware of the traffic lights in Del Mar and Solana Beach - many have photo red light cameras. At this time of the day this traffic moves and is usually not backed up. This week may be an exception with the Torrey Pines golf tournament happening.

Regarding the Gathering, I am going to attempt to make this one. I have recently aquired my MCS and have never been to one of these. I do have a business trip scheduled for that day, but I am going to try and reschedule it.

How late do these events usually run for? I am not able to cancel my business trip scheduled for that day and will not arrive back at San Diego airport till after 8 PM.

 

It depends on who shows up. Last time I think we all left around 9:30.

We plan on having them each month though, so no worries.

 

What kind of activities take place at these gatherings? I would like to participate once I get my new mini (March 2006)!

 

These are just midweek meets.

Since they are just beginning, we want to find out what everyone is interested in. So basically, hanging out right now.

yea...I dunno if im not looking at the right places right or the fact that I dont know my areas to well or what but I cant seem to find any Mini gatherings ever in the Valley area, let alone LA
