New Mini Pully/Air Filter Advice

I will be taking delivery of a Cooper S Convertable next month. One of the Ralph Shomp dealer installed options is the JCW air filter kit ($550), and they offered to install a pully modification for around $600. The salesperson said would add 15HP and really improve performance here at the higher altitude. Anyone had this done at Schomps and is it worth the price? Did you have any problems with this modification? Advise please.

I would highly recommend getting this done at Webb Motorsports just down the road from Schomp. Randy Webb or Brian Black can do both of these mods more quickly and for less cost than Schomp, with better parts and selection to boot. A 15 percent supercharger pulley with an Alta (louder, but good IMO) or Helix (quieter, almost as much gain) intake will yield a substantial gain in power that you will immediately feel through the seat of your pants on the order of 20hp. While you're there I would also recommend a rear swaybar to get improved handling to go with the added engine power.

See the Webb Motorsports FAQ here.

Randy did both of our cooper s,s with alta 15% and intake. You could also do the pulley with dealer and get the alta intake as long as the dealer backs up Mini warranty. If not go with Randy 100%.

I forgot to mention that Webb Motorsports also has a warranty with all of their products, so if that is part of your decision you are covered. You will also save a significant sum of money

The shop is 10-15 minutes from Schomp just south of 470 on Santa Fe (you can PM me for exact directions), and Randy or Brian can most likely do the install the day you pick up your new Mini (congrats BTW!), provided you schedule an appointment with them.

Wow.... good thing that wasnt a shamless plug! Micah is right about all he said. If you would like, before you spend money with us, drop by the shop any day this week and check us out. We are at the end or Norwood drive which is directly off Santa Fe going south, right past C470. If you need some more in depth instructions, call us at 303-683-4424 and we can get you out here.

Sorry to resurrect this thread from so long ago, but it caught my interest. Flyboyden, are you saying that Schomp offered to install the JCW 14% pulley for around $600?

I've been reading other threads about how some MINI dealers can be funny honoring warranty work if there have been mods, including pulleys. I would love to install the Webb pulley but don't know what Schomp's policy is re: pulleys. Does anyone know for sure? That's why the JCW pulley installation caught my attention: Schomp would surely have to honor the warranty if they do the installation and it's a JCW part.

Thanks, all.
Steve

They are not installing the JCW pulley for that price - they use the MINI Mania pulley, and if it came down to it, they would not cover you under the factory warranty but only if it was an issue directly related to the pulley. They are a very good dealership when it comes to mods in general.

We do have a warranty, and also do the work using our pulley, which is the best on the market. February is pretty booked, but I could get you in before we left for Vegas in March.

Feel free to email me with any questions or set up a time to check out the shop.

Hope that helps!
Randy

Got MINIKO some new toys in 2007 ... a WMS 15% pulley and WMS RAF intake installed ... boy, money well spent, I really appreciated the added power and the cool sound when accelerating. It was awesome!

Also, thanks to Randy for signing my installs. haha, very cool!

For the folks that weren't there (and a reminder for those of us that were) where are all those pictures that you took? (assuming of course that Randy doesn't mind them being posted)

p.s. the car looked great!

Thanks. Pictures are in my computer. Not sure how to post on NAM. Maybe need a lesson from Mark. :-P

Yup, I was all worried during the install but now really enjoying the added POWER on my BABY! Hmm, what upgrade(s) next Mr. Webb? 168hp stock + 21 = 189 ... what else to make MINIKO over 200hp?? OMG, I am getting hooked on mod. Scary thought.
