Just a suggestion. It's easier if a certain day and place each month is scheduled. This way, you'll know ahead of time to plan for it and more people can show. When we do change locations. We do it at our monthly meet so the regulars choose then we send out an e-mail to others that can't make it as often.

I thought that at the last meeting (Johnny Ray's) we decided on a first Monday-of-the-Month schedule (or something like that). I don't recall whether we chose a location for the Jan. meeting.

Tuesday the 3rd is good for me.

When we 1st talked about having monthly meetings I thought we were going to move around different restaurants on Hwy 280 each month. I think it will be fun to try different food in the area & then after we have tried a bunch of them maybe we can settle in on a favorite.

Yep, back home from the cold, white north. Christmas is so much more fun with small children. I have never laughed so much or so hard. I made two hours of tapes so I could watch it some more once I got home.

February Meetup is planned for the Fish Market on Hwy 280. The date is 02/06/2006 at 6. Beat the doldrums by driving your MINI and enjoying the company of other MINI owners. See ya There.

what is the deal with 280. i think that driving south on 280 at rush hour is hardly enjoyable motoring. consequently anything further south than 459 is out for me unless its after 7pm or so. i guess most folks live outside bham. anything wrong with sat. afternoons?

Hwy 280 is sort of central with folks coming from Pelham/Helena, Gardendale, Homewood, and Trussville. Certainly we are open to suggestions about the day and time, but have some kind of consistency about it. I don't especially like driving 280 either so I looked for alternative routes, like Grants Mill to Hwy 119 to 280. Since we are just starting we have to experiment with days and times and places to see how it affects the attendance/participation. February has been scheduled so if anyone wants to propose a meeting place for March, date and place, lets hear it and get it one the calendar.

I think the point of doing it on a weeknight is that more people can drop by after work & grab a quick bite than can get free on a weekend day.

If I get together with all of y'all on the weekend I expect there to be more than eating involved (i.e...riding some twisties )

Yes what is the deal with 280. I work in Homewood but I don't really like 280 at all. I will drive 30 mins north to stay off 280 because once you drive from Homewood down 280 it has been 30 mins.

I agree that 280 is not ideal motoring, but I'll go anywhere most any time if I am free. I think I will try to find an alternate route from Hoover just for fun when we meet at the fish market.

Maybe if we pick restaurants on 280 that are all near 119. From most places there are plenty of alternate routes that avoid 280 (for the most part) when you are going to a place on 280 that is near 119.

From Hoover you can take 65 to 119 & drive 119 to 280. Fish market is just south of 119 (less than a mile).

There is no good way that I can think of to get to it from Homewood lol. Maybe for March we can pick a place in Homewood. I would love to go to Dave's Pizza. They have many things on the menu besides pizza & their pizza's are excellent & use unusual ingredients. Of course I don't think there is an easy route into homewood from anywhere lol

i for one can get to homewood easily. however i still vote for sat. meetings. traffic jams at rush hour arent mine or most peoples idea of fun. if we were to to meet sat. like 3 or 4 wouldnt most of everyones shopping and chores etc. be done, or at least be ready for a break? ill try to do what works best for everyone but the further south on 280 at 6pm the worse the traffic gets. ill give grants mill a try though i think ill need new shocks for that road.

Meetings

We like Saturday afternoons (the only times we may be in Birmingham). We like Homewood or Southside resturants. There is good parking across the street from Dave's now that Soho is open.
If looking for a fun driving experience, driving outside of town would probably be better. However, that sounds like a day trip rather than an afternoon meeting.
See yall. Terry and Ruth
