noise reported to be throw-out barring, how long until...

clutch failure? Will problems with the throw out bearing making that noise that people have described as the belt slipping sound, or the vibration noise have something to do with clutch failure?

If so, how long do I have until this happens? I was hoping I could have enough money to do the clutch/flywheel and a LSD unit all at the same time when the clutch needed replaced. I haven't had any problems with slipping or anything, seems to hold power just fine. I don't do regular burnouts, maybe 4 since I've owned the car, but do my fair share of spirited driving.

Depending on your year, Mini has bulletins out on this problem if its the same issues your having.

I definitely have the bearing-type noise....or vibration noise.

Same question I have been seeking an answer to regarding the tapping noise in neutral! Does the '05 January build, have the "improved" part.

Interesting that in 1FSTMINI's first link regarding the 6-spd Getrag....

http://usminiclub.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=178.html

"...I had my flywheel and clutch assembly changed and still have the same noise so now I'm hearing its "normal" "

Simultaneous post!! That is what I expected to hear...change the part, but no change in the noise! Thanks.

I think agile is talking about s problem .Yes it is common and is discussed in a current thread.Ive just finished having work done to address. The squeal is the throw out bearing,The rattle is the flywheel, which mini has changed under warranty because an update was available. It was replaced at same time because they dont want to go in 2 times to solve any noise type problems. When clutch disc was removed there was very little wear.

So...did the sound go away with the new flywheel? Seems like it didn't in some instances. I don't want to go through the trouble of alerting the dealer and having the change if the noise doesn't go away and...it's not really wearing anything detrimentally and/or it doesn't cause any functional problems.

Thanks!
