No, I got away with it for the first year or so, then two tickets in the last year and a half. Usually take it off just before AMVIV

Out of the 1 MC, 1 MCS, a jeep liberty, and a turbo vw convertible we own, only the MC has a front plate. (3) vehicles are 2003, (1) 2004 which we have owned since new. We have never been stopped on any of the cars, but it sounds like its getting to be a regular issue in the South and East Bay area.

I know when REME has its Mount Hamilton run, my plate will be hanging in the windshield (first time ever). I refuse to mount it on the bumber.

I haven't had a front plate in Cali for 7 years now. I got one fixit ticket when the car was parked...not when I was driving the car. I had to either pay $40 for the ticket or pay $10 and bring the car into the station for them to see that I had fixed it. Either way, it didn't go on my record as a moving violation. I sent the $40 and never fixed it. If I saw everyone else with front plates I'd put it on but probably 10%+ of the cars around here don't have them soooo. The way i look at it, if a police car is behind me and I am not doing anything wrong, they can't see my front. If they are coming at me the opposite direction, they can see I don't have it but they aren't going to go out of their way to turn around and tag me. I would hope they have better things to do. The only benefit for me outside of it being better looking without the plate is if I went through a red with all the photo machines at the signals now. The machine clicks the pic...I am unidentifiable. But that's a mute point anyway because honestly, I haven't run a red as long as I haven't had a front plate.

Unfortunatly I have the same commute every day, early in the morning when there are very few if any cars out. There is one highway patrol that watches me (all the rest have something better too do). I have got both of my plate tickets form her. She will pass me, check her mirror then slow and pull me over. Oh well, maybe I shoulda got silver

Nah, Rural area, bright car, remembers it has broken the law before, might as well check up on it I'm the only yellow Mini in the entire county (second largest in Ca), so I kind of stick out. No worries

I'd say so... Down in the middle of nowhere. That's kinda a funny story. I guess that means that you drive "safe."

I doubt people understand how rural Bishop is...

What is the year round population... 3,600 people or so...

I feel bad for your plight, and I too, have no front license plate, but I live in a town with over 130,000 people.

It has got to be rough with 1:3,600 chance of being nailed by the same CHP person...

Maybe she likes you and just can't express it any other way...

or ... Maybe she hates you and is jealous over your car...

Either way I know she sees you ...

YOUR DRIVING THAT BEA...UTIFUL YELLOW COOPER

Never a ticket for no plate

I have never got a ticket for no front plate.
Plenty of other tickets (not trying to sound proud)
The only BS ticket I have got is for window tinting
Unfortunantly thats harder to get creative on "fixing"

I went to 3 different PD stations without fixing it and dont tell my wife but found a young rookie (GIRL) at the desk to take a look at the car.
A bit of flirting and an open sunroof got the job done.

I am wondering if you bent a front plate to "wrap around" the bumper would they still be pissed

13 years no front plate for me. 16 years no front plate on my wife's car. Both of us have had our share of speeding tickets, but not once did that cop give us any grief about no front plate. Neither one of us has ever been pulled over for no plate either.

However, I have received 2 fix it tickets and she has received 1. Every occaison was while the cars were parked on public streets in a downtown area. Twice this happened in Palo Alto, once in San Francisco.

Lessons learned: Be very careful in Palo Alto or SF; Avoid parking on public streets, esp. areas that have metered parking (that means meter maid will be coming by). Residential areas are usually lower risk than commercial areas. If you must park in a commercial area, look for a private parking garage, or look for a parking lot where you can park head first, facing another car. Most cops/meter maids will not walk in between cars to check for license plates.

Ah, to front plate or not . . . Most of the MINIs in the D/FW area do not have front plates and I haven't heard of any problems. Done properly, however, front plates can be fun . . .

Matma92ser..that's where I got my fixit ticket..downtown Palo Alto. I was upset because I still had plenty of time on my meter and got the ticket. Ever since that ticket, I avoided going to downtown Palo Alto. So they got my $40 fixit money but they lost a customer who frequently visited downtown PA to buy stuff. Way to drive customers/revenue out of your city, Palo Alto meter maids!

No front plate for like 15mo. so far, no problem, even I got a speeding ticket along with a fix requriement for the rear plate to remove the transparent plate cover, no mention from the cops about my missing front plate.

I talked to the cop who checked my fix on the removal of the rear plate cover, he said cops usually don't pull you over for the plate problem, unless you have an expired registration or you have a moving violation, then they may add that to the ticket, like my case.

I drove cars without front plates since 1989 without an issue until this year. I receive tickets on both cars. Once, a CHP pulled me over on 101 near the GG bridge. I was doing 55 mph and that's the limit. Another time, a Motorcycle cop in SF was making a U-turn and saw my car without a front plate and pulled me over.

Now, before you think it's random, two weeks ago I saw four motorcycle cops on tenth street pulling people over for no front license plates. They weren't on their bikes. Two cops were standing in the street, watching cars driving down the road and waving them over. The other two cops wrote up the tickets.

In SF, they are on a mission.

It's ten bucks for a fix-it in S.F. but $110.00 if you decided to pay the fine.

I'm driving my MINI in the Petaluma area with no front plate, but I doubt I'll be bothered... My car's registered in VA and I don't intend to transfer my tags. I'm military so legally I don't have to transfer my tags...

Got a no front plate tkt last year while parked in a residential area between cars - there was no choice for a fix it, just over $100 ticket.

Got a ticket while parked in Los Angeles too, at night at a meter on a city street while in a restaurant :P That was approx $25 as I recall.

Its gotta be the traffic cameras inspiring the increased enforcement and so I expect the ticketing to get even more vigilent and spread out to more areas :/

I live in VA and drove my 96 Volvo for several years with no front plate. Then one day I got a parking ticket in DC--$50 for parking in the wrong place at the wrong time, and another $50 for not having a front license plate. After that I just gave up and put it on.

The point is that I received the ticket from a jurisdiction other than the one in which the car is registered.

Though I’m not in No Cal, I do the same type of commute every day. There are only 15 cars on the road when I go to work. Me and 14 police cars. You can bet your last dollar I do not do anything to give them a chance to pull me over.

Funny thing is that’s they’re job. If you are driving your car at a time when only you and the police are on the road… Get your car in compliance with the state regulations or stop b!tching about being pulled over for driving in an illegal manor. Don't blame the police for your actions.

I say we stage a protest run in Bishop. We Motor around for a while and then burn our bras...Er...front plates in protest. I have been driving in California for only three years and no ticket. The only vehicle that I have driven with a front plate is the Kia Sorento because it has a place on the front bumper that is made for a plate and it would look funky without it.

I was never blaming anyone for my actions. I knew I was breaking the law, and it was just a matter of time till I woulld be caught. I happily paid the fine........both times.

I was never complaining/ bitching.
