Say goodbye to Liquid Yellow, Purple Haze, and Solar Red

Just read today's MotoringFile article and found that these colors are being discontinued.

I guess MINI doesn't think any of us want to drive around in jelly bean colors anymore. . .

I sure hope the replacement colors are not drab and boring - we need BRIGHT colors!! Yucca, looks like you and PPE will have a collectors item..

Shocking news!!! Not sure why but it's always a bit of a jolt when colors are discontinued. Those PH MINIs will be rare, right?!?!

I really hate to see LY going away.. First they take away EB, now it is LY. What are MINI thinking?!?!
I wish they have some better replacment that similar to LY.

With all the gushing that people have done over the beauty of Solar Red (in all of its metallic glory), I'm surprised its only getting one model year of exposure...they really thought that one through.

Yes, but unfortunately, we took it out of the original packaging and played with it, so it is no longer Mint In Box !

Although on the "bright side", I heard a rumor that they are discontinuing these colors to make room for 3 new desperately needed colors:

Very-Light-Silver, Medium-Silver, and Not-Quite-So-Royal-Grey

From what Gabe has posted there are no replacement colors. LY, PH, and SR are just being phased out to help streamline production in the factory change over.

I totally agree though that MINI needs more color.

A deeper yellow would be nice, always thought LY was too milky.

How many years for PH?

It will be about a year and a half when it is discontinued in a few months. Production of PH started in the summer of 2004

I was thinking more along the lines of cloud mist, charcoal grey, and LA smog.

hey...thanks! That totally helps my color decision! Of course, now i can't decide between Royal grey and Not-Quite-So-Royal-Grey!!!

sort of sad to see these go, and yes, even thought I plan to order a CB/CB (crap brown/crap brown) for myself, i really do enjoy the bright colors. I do like my wife's Chili red, the Electric blue was great as well. Solar red is killer, if it were an MCS color, i would really have to think about getting SR/S.

LY is ok, but i agree with the above poster, it's not *exactly* the right yellow to my eye. Not that it matters, i'm not a yellow car kind of guy (no hate for those who are!)

I would love to see an orange in the same family as chili red....very rich & deep. The Hot orange just isn't it....

Anyone have a problem with a paint repair on a discontinued color? Some of these colors Mini has look like they may be difficult for a paint shop to match exactly since they have "hue's" of other colors in them. LY seems like it would be simple enough but solar red would seem to me a big challenge.

Why would it be hard to match? Color formulas are available from paint manufacturers for anything automotive industry produces. Who do you think the car makers get their paint from?

Turns out I was wrong.

Hot Orange is dying as well.
Expect 2 new yellows, and 2 new blues. And…

Actually that sounds fairly close to what I’ve heard. New yellow, new blues, and the elimination of all sorts of first generation MINI colors. If anyone has a definitive list of color changes for late 2006 based around the intro of the 2007 MINI, feel free to anonymously send it via the contact link above ;-)

One thing I wouldn't mind is if they discontinued ALL of the current colors for 2007 and started off with a fresh new color palate!

Maybe we could get a proper non-metallic British Racing Green instead of the Bavarian Black Forest Green we currently have to make do with!

I agree - two new yellows, and two new blues, but still not a single actual green? Why not a nice bright grassy green?

I really believe that MINI wants to make the average Joe on the street consider MINIs to be more mainstream in more markets around the country. If Joe only sees yellow and electric blue and purple MINIs on the roads, he might not consider the MINI to be an option for him. However, if he sees lots of silver, pepper white, and black MINIs (all lovely colors by the way), he may start to think of the MINI as a real option for him..................I wish they would go the other way with it!

I haven't even SEEN RG, SB, or SR in person yet and already they are announcing the discontinuation of SR??? Wow.

I second the vote for a more authentic BRG, or at least one that's a shade or two lighter than the current color.
