I have noticed that this problem is getting gradualyly worse and worse. I can't take off normally at a stoplight with a good amount of gas without the car jerking and gives like a sudden jolt. Kind of hard to explain. If I leg it engage for quite a few seconds, it can go smooth. I know I have heard of people saying you need to wait on the machinery in the tranny, but this wait is so laggy the old lady beside me in the camry is at the next stop light before I have a smooth launch. Is it just me, or is something wrong?

 

Is more it more like the engine rpms r being effected or is it the clutch?

I also noticed this morning after I pulled out of the driveway when I put it in drive and didnt hit the gas, it jolted forward, and this was after I had stopped, not as the car was going back...

 

have u been driving in manual mode? not sure if the CVTs have it. But I have noticed that the "learning" trans works quite well in picking up your driving habits when in manual mode.

My X3 drives just like I would in SD.

You might wanna try to have the trans relearn your habits a bit better. if none the less a trip to the dealer might be a solution

What year is your MINI CVT? How many miles does it have and when did the problem start? Mine is '03 (may build) with approx 40K miles. The lurching seems to have coincided with the bitterly cold weather, but it could be a coincidence and not a cause.

I'm bringing mine in on Monday Dec. 12th to the dealer to fix a dead door lock actuator, so I will ask them to check the CVT as well... but I doubt they will find anything. It seems they only spring into action if the car is giving a "trouble code" when they hook it up to the computer. To them, no codes means "no problem here!"

I've got a code, it's called: "Please just fix it."

Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes on Monday. Good luck with your car...what are you thinking of doing? Bringing it in to your dealer to check out?

I was told that sometimes a cvt will become slightly low on fluid after break in and some mileage has been put on the car. They told me the fix was to top off the fluid and re adapt the trans/software. Our cooper cvt is in th eshop right now and HAD the same problem.

 

weeeeeell.......CVT is a different story.....GARBAGE! j/k

We get those issues alot....Its an easy fix with the tech just clearing the adaptions and re-learning the driving habits again.

I actually never drive in manual mode, only time it goes in anything else is in SD when I need a bit of extra speed jumping on the highway. It really hasn't gotten worse with cold weather, especially since I am in San Jose, Cali. It is about the same as it has been for over 2k miles. I just figured it might be normal. I just don't want to waste my time taking it to the dealer and them saying they cant replicate the problem. Been there, done that. If relearning and adapting works, I may try that out. Thanks.

 

I know this doesn't help, but my dad's A6 does the same thing (3.0 CVT). Dealership just said it was normal for the CVT. It's always acted like that since we bought it. Not knowing much about the CVT design, I've just figured it was belt slippage from the quick onset of torque from the engine, and once the belt grips it jolts the car.
