Runflat leak ...Where to repair ?
Runflat leak ...Where to repair ?
Greetings,
Last night, THAT warning light came on....made a bong sound too. Discovered that the left rear tire had no air. Filled it w/40 plus pounds. Hit the reset button. No warning light came on. Drove 10 miles home. Today it's down to 35 pounds and am going to have to accept that this isn't a fluke and it needs to be repaired. (Btw, only drove it two miles today...don't want to risk anything.)
Can anyone recommend a place to get it patched or plugged? Someone (a long time ago) posted that they had a good experience at Firestone. As follows:
" I ended up having it fixed at Firestone (which Sears actually recommended since they didn't want to touch runflats because they didn't have the tools). Firestone gave me an estimate of $25 to patch, but they ended up plugging it instead for $12 . At first, I was kinda hesitant about the plug. But the guy there acknowledged that he has seen some plugs leak because they were either not prepped right or the plug kit was of poor quality. He explained to me that they ream the hole first so it bonds properly, then use a plug that is made up of the exact same material as the Dunlop (and since they sell Dunlops I believed him)."
Has anyone else had any good experiences? Am also wondering if most leaks can be repaired? I had to replace my front two runflats after only 12k miles... the treads were so low that I couldn't pass safety. Got Yokohama non-runflats on the front now. Hoping to get a year from these last two.
alohas,

Try a Goodyear service center. There is one on Sheridan Street. Call and ask first as I think Goodyear will carry the Goodyear tires and the Dunlops. They did fix a tire last year whe a run flat went flat at the track. Not sure who carries Pirellis, maybe Lex Brodies.
i replaced both on my rear Pirellis runflats at sears (with a discount came to 220 each OUCH). lex wanted 10 bucks more. when i change out my fronts, i was looking at tirerack.com, looks like it's still cheaper after fedex to hawaii...
just a heads up, looks like both sears and lex don't stock Pirellis, so they require to special order them and takes about 1 or 2.

Thanks for the tips. I replaced my front runflats with Yokohama regular tires in August at Tires Direct (which was near the old Costco / Salt Lake). Just for the record, they aren't there and Mitch, the owner is looking for a new place. Btw, Lex will ship in non-runflats (Yokohamas) for about $117.00 each.(one week wait)
TireRack is a great source.I checked into their offerings last August. They have great prices for runflats and non-runflats, even with FedEx charges. The last I checked, Eurosport will put them on.

got a big nail with a big ol plastic head...looks like the foot of a sofa or desk..
anyways I patch the run-flat with a plug kit tonight... I hope that is fine for runflat repair....
still have to inflate it to see...
