Does anyone else with a Whalen hear a slight click when shifting into first or 5th and sometimes reverese. My assumption is it is the know twisting ever so slightly and the collar hitting the metal? Thinking of wrapping some electrical tape around the stalk to tighten things up a bit.

I have my Whalen on for a year, but no click sound. Did you push your **** all the way down when installed it?

I think so...how much force should I use to push. Should it feel like it snaps into place?

It shouldn't take much force at all to slide the **** onto the lever, as long as you're holding the collar up.

If you can't pull the **** off the lever without first raising the collar, it's locked on properly.

I'm puzzled about the reported "clicking" noise, though. The collar should never be touching the inside of that clearance hole in the ball.

Yea its weird. Not really a huge problem but I was thinking I might have screwed up putting it on but based on your description it seems like I put it on correctly. The bottom of the collar meets the flare portion of the stalk.

It only seems to click when I am moving the shift to right and up or to the left and up 1st and 5th and sometimes in reverse. It's not the stalk making the noise becuase I tested by putting the factory shift back on and voila no more click.

Regardless of the click I love the shifter.

My wonderful wife got me a Whalen for Christmas. I am enjoying it but have the click you wrote about. Did you ever find a fix for it as it is a bit distracting/annoying?

Thanks!!

The same thing happens with mine as well... although it isn't really an audible click, but I can feel it. It doesn't happen all the time and it is only slightly perceptable when it does. I have pulled the **** off and reset it several times, but it still does it. I have a feeling it may be a contraction/expansion thing with the steel at certain temperatures.
An idea I had which might work (I haven't tried yet though) is to wrap a bit of teflon tape around the groove which should give just a bit of cushion. Using electrical tape as you said may be a bit thick.

I moved my ring from my right to my left hand - no clicks anymore.

Should prevent damage too.....

Me too

I have intermittent click with mine as well. I have attributed it to a very slight amount of play between the ball and the collar mechanism. I don't know if it is a defect or just and effect of wear from taking the ball on/off.

In any case I just ignore it because I love the shifter so much.

Yup - mine did the same thing. The issue is that the tab in the WSM is slightly small for the mating slot in the top of the shifter. I put a couple of wraps of teflon tape around half of the top of the shift lever - through the slot and on only half of the top - make sense? This works great. If you remove the WSM, you'll have to re-wrap the teflon tape again; it'll come off inside the WSM and you'll have to fish it out with a small pick or screwdriver.

Hmmm...
If you're correct, some shift levers must have wider slots in them.

Is there any way that you could measure the width of yours? It should be right around .200".

Mine fit just a tad loose meaning you could twist it left and right just a tad. To fix that I just pulled the **** off and put a piece of electric tape over the shift lever then put the **** back on. Fits very tight now.
