Factory iPod adapter- does it charge when the car is off???

I had the dealer install a factory iPod adapter some time ago and recently purchased and began using an iPod Mini in my MINI. Does anyone know if the adapter allows the iPod to charge when the car is off? It may be my imaginiation but it seems like the car is a little harder to start in the mornings now since I've started using the iPod. Granted I have an Odyssey 680 (smaller) batttery in the car but I never had issues getting going before I started using the iPod. I'm wondering if the colder weather around here has anything to do with it as well? It is South/Central Texas so cold weather is really a relative term

yes, it will charge for about 15 minutes. How long ago did you get it installed? There was an issue with the early bmw intefaces draining the battery.

does your smaller battery have the same "cold cranking amps" as the stock one?

Hi jbsf3, I am also in San Antonio. I also have the iPod adapter in the glove box. Mine does not charge when its plugged into the adapter; in fact, it continues to drain charge if I leave it plugged in.

On another note, we just last weekend did our spirited motoring in the hill country. We had a great ride and had lunch at Lost Maples State Park. Maybe you can make the next one. We are planning to do our Pie Run from last year after New Year.

See you on the road.

Oooo a run in the new year!I hope I can make that one. I might be swaybarred by then.

I have an adapter that isn't the factory one, but if I leave it plugged in with the car off all day long it can drain down the battery. The ipod should shut itself down after a few minutes, but if you don't have the hold turned on then it can turn on and off and draw power. I have just made it a habit to unplug mine from the connector so I know it's not draining anything. I have mine coming out to a parcel shelf right under the steering column so it's a little easier to do than in the glovebox.
