Just to make a couple of points clear and reply to the FAQs.
The Meet will not be in Phoenix, but in Prescott where the average June temperatures are in the low 80s, at least 20 degrees cooler than the big city.
The Meet is being mid week to accomodate out-of-state visitors who can use the weekends as travel time and use a minimum of vacation time.
There will 8 days between the west and east coast meets and MADMEN are sponsoring a special contest, a Mini Scavenger Hunt, for those who attend both events.
The Mini Meet East is in Frederick, Maryland, June 30th thru July 3rd 2006.

Here is a bit of history and nostalgia for those not familiar with Mini Meet West. The first MMW was held in Reno Nevada in 1973 and was sponsored by Mini Owners of America San Francisco. Below is link to a scanned copy of the proof to the original flier that was sent to Mini owners across the country. Also below is a link to a photo taken at that meet in 1973.

Getting close!
There was a car show today, met the first Mini cooper in town for MMW. Didn't write down his name, but not a NAM member.

There were other cool cars, like this Cobra Daytona coupe.

Early shot of some of the parkinglot.

I need to write stuff down. Meantime, what are the brands on these two?

And I had to block my dent with the classic Mini.

Hope to get some decent shots under better light conditions.
We get orange everything... tag, windsheild sticker, t-shirts, etc.

Sun burn contest and...
... show downtown.

I just like purple.

I like fast. But I haven't asked for a ride in this yet!

I just like purple... and so do others!
Looking forward to the morning run. Hope to find some decent landscape background.
p.s. I offered to shuttle back the white Moke. Crapped out on me at the bottom of one of our hills. Should have got the clue to the dude's friends when they asked me "are you SURE you want THAT car?"

The Moke is actually last night's sundown (can't really call it a sunset).
Clo': ain't they cute! Should have heard the family in the SUV cruising by us at the hotel *oh they're cute* 4X times as I walked past.
Great pictures. I was surprised to see people I know.
The picture of the first Mini to arrive is Big Bob O from Florida. He is in the midst of his second circle the globe (or at least the US) trip in his Mini. He left FL quite a while back, taking a very circuitous route to AZ. I think he went via places like Minnesota, North Dakota and other states known to be out of the way from his end destination. When he leaves there he will be traveling to MME in Maryland before heading home. I forget how many miles he traveled on his first long distance trip but I think this one will exceed the first.
He is somehow able to pack two of almost anything he might need to keep his Mini going.
I also spy a familiar vtec Mini that was seen prowling the NC, TN mountains back in May.

Yarnell Hill run
The cool morning was beautiful. This is Iron Springs Road going down to Skull Valley.

This is the Yarnell Hill overlook. It's on the old road grade going down. Everyone is looking at the awesome newer road up.

The return to Prescott via White Spar (AZ 89).

Gotta go on the Poker Run which includes 89A.

Poker Run
We are lined up at Watson Lake.

I just like this shot, with my car the focus!

Nice road up Mingus Mountain, but too many tourists (not in Minis).

Managed to get a decent shot here (despite stupid camera).

Finally some clouds.

And a reject for the Landscape theme!

I better finish my poker hand at the hotel, gotta go!

Awards banquet wrapup
Well, I forgot the camera today. *duh*
The triathalon was fun!
The first stage was similar to an autocross, only very tight. The trick was to match the predetermined time.
The second stage was going around one cone, first "lap" had to be 11 seconds, the second at 9 seconds, the third at 10 seconds.
The third stage was the cup crusher. 6 Dixie cups (sheet metal with hole to make windproof) were spaced out, you had to drive over them and match the time.
There was also a r/c car contest (I didn't participate).
All I'm reporting on trophy wise are my results: 3rd place on the second stage today, 2nd place for Creative photo with one of my sunset photos, and 1st place for large scale model (but I was the only entry).
Bob in my first photo above got the long distance driven classic award. I am the unofficial shortest distance winner at 5.2 miles.
My kids now understand there are more rabid Miniacs than myself.

Just a few more pictures.
Weeded out some more to post.

Just a little awesome.

It was fun driving the white Moke, while it lasted.

This is a much loved Estate wagon.

BMW: this is British Racing Green.

Everyone liked this purple Mini.

The best sunset shot I could get.
Thanks for looking. I really enjoyed the show. After I get the entry list, I plan to edit these photos to look a little professional.
