On my way into the office this morning in stop and go traffic, I noticed a Lincoln Navigator. It had a very unusual wheel design. I watched it slowly approach stopped traffic. I tensed up, because it looked as if the Navigator was going to just slowly roll into the back of the stopped car in front of it.

At this point, I am doing a major double-take. The Navigator had already stopped; it only looked like it was rolling. What???

The Navigator was COMPLETELY stopped. The tires were NOT rotating, but the wheels (obviously some type of funky rotating wheel cover) was still rotating. Darndest thing I've ever seen. It totally messed with my senses.

Has anyone else ever seen anything like that?

See ya,
JS

Not in person.... but some rapper on MTV Cribs (so embarassed to admit that I watched) had them and he was making them spin while the car was parked in the driveway

I can only imagine how twisted it must be to see it in person!

Yup...MTV Cribs. And yes, I'm outside the demographic as well. My wife is really the guilty party. She usually tells me to turn off the Speed Channel.

Spinners, yO! That's the numba one stunna bling bling style! I actually saw a set on an Escalade when I was in St Louis and also on a Lexus GS in Philly. They'll keep on spinning after you stop, and they take a while to start spinning once you start to move. Interesting idea, and it does look kinda cool, but definitely not for me.

I read a review on the new Roles-Royce (another BMW like the MINI is) and they will be equiped with a hub cap that always rotates to a stop so that the emblem is right side up.

No upside down or sideways emblems.
Now THAT I would like for my MINI.

Hmmm like some nice 22" Spinner Dubs on a MCS...hmmm it might look good!

The reason for these is because some rapper said in a song "my wheels keep spinning even when my ride stops", then somebody just made them. On the right car they look cool, but think about it, thats really 8 wheels to keep clean!

It's fune to muse about spinners... imagine how tough they are to wash around! They are SPinTeks (*SP*) Sprewell Racing offers them... they run well over $1000 per wheel...

See them all over her in SoCal on the Big SUVS... I don't think they even make them under 20'' DUBS

They all started with the BatMobile... remember the wheels on that boat? The Bat emblems were gimbled so that they would NOT spin. The Technology was utilized somewhat and unlocked the center, causing it to spin.... Now that's a WB Bling Bling in the shadow of the Bat!

They are neato, but I would only install them if I got them for free.
I doubt they could handle ride off a mini.

I've got this old subaru and I think I'm gonna try to make some spinners out of some chrome hubcaps! Gotta go to Home depot and find some sort of bearing to attach to my steel wheels. THAT would be funny! Maybe I can patent them and sell to wanna be stunnaz! Maybe I'll pick up some plywood and make a nice touring spoiler too!

Last night I watched Monstor Garage and Jesse James slapped a set of spinners on the wedding chapel Suburban monstosity. At the end of the show, he pulls a big burnout. The camera man gets a nice close up shot of the wheel not spinnig, but somehow the tire still spins for the burnout. Pretty cool for a 'burban, rather silly for a MINI.
