Well its official, the stock SC intake tube is garbage. I just finished making my new aluminum SC to throttle body intake tube and after getting it to seal correctly i took the car out for a run and had amazing results.
I've had my current mods (minus the new tube) for 15000 miles now. I've never gotten more than 18 psi out of it. When i went out for my first 5 minute run, i was able to pin my boost gauge 4 times. I have a 20 psi gauge.
I do have a small problem though, i keep getting error code P0108. Its an overboost code.
Now before everybody goes crazy, i am only reading my boost levels from my autometer boost gauge. everybody knows that these are not the best so don't pay attention to the number that i'm posting, look at the delta between the original and n ew numbers. 18 -> 20 psi! that a delta of 2 psi! I plan to make a few more of these and test them on cars with different setups.

If I remember correctly, thats not an overboost code. Thats high manifold pressure.... I started getting this code once I threw on a 17% pulley and header. I also throw P0107, which is low manifold pressure. I throw these codes all the damn time so I doubt its your tube that is causing them. I run about 16-18 lbs of boost with a 17% pulley, AGS, and a nice whistling vacuum leak

So how would you differentiate this from the AGS tube? I know you said somewhere earlier in this thread or the other one that you didn't want to be drawing air from behind the radiator. Are you saying that your new tube allows the TB to remain in the same location so that the standard (or Alta, etc) intake plumbing can be used?
I always was curious as to why MINI chose to make that SC inlet tube the way they did -- I always assumed it was pinched because of necessary clearance in the cramped space down there. I've never had the radiator off (service mode) on my car to look at it in person, but I've seen pictures posted here on NAM. If you have a way to make your tube fit in the same space, it sounds like a winner to me!

BBD, it's my undrstanding that this tube is a direct replacement for the stocker, leaving the TB in it's current location. A very slick idea... Having it be aluminum, ultimately, will probably not be ideal though. The heat of the SC will be trasferred to it, and then to the TB... more so than if it were plastic or some other type of composite. This is along the lines of what Randy Webb found during his testing of the K&N intake tube (Typhoon)...
How's the 2nd tube coming along?? Any pics of either tube for us to peek at? If you were to make these in a limited number to sell, how much would it cost?

The 0108 code is going to come on from time to time with boost levels goin outside of the pressure sensors parameters. I reset my light every other week just to be sure nothing else tripped it.
fran, i've been busy with all of my projects and with moving my grandfather to his new house. If you want to stop by sometime to take a "peek" at the tube that'll be fine. As far as the pulley goes, i can't find my pulley removal tool so a new one has been ordered. Friday maybe.
