Factory HK Replacement?

ok, i jut got a new you-ification book at my service visit this morning, and while flipping thru, i found this....

page 13, item c

Digital Power Sound Modul
-Designed for the MINI, this hi-fi system delivers unparralled power, sound quality and style, cortesy of a Class-D digital amplifier, liquid cooled tweetrs,a 160MM fromt woofer and 6x9 rear co-axial speakers with trim color matched to your MINI's exterior. Speaker trim avaliable in silver, anthracite, hot orange metallic, cool blue and primed.

Hardtop-$1650
Convertable-$1939

what do you guys make of this? the factorys equivalent of a very high end aftermarket setup?

Id like to learn more about the system, all the show is a hokey picture of one of the rear speakers....

i'm going to look into it and see what i can find...

The DPSM has been available for quite a while now in Europe and Canada. Nice to hear that MINIUSA is FINALLY picking it up.

Before I ordered my MCS last December, I had read about DPSM, and asked the dealer to look into it. They couldn't find any info on it, or whether it would be available here. Torn between just getting the Boost and waiting to get DPSM, or getting HK up front, I decided to get the HK. While I like the HK, I can't help but wonder if I should have just got the standard Boost system and added DPSM later (even if I had to import the parts!).

Now, the decision will be there for new buyers. I still haven't heard it yet, but I'm definitely curious!

Incidentally, in case anyone else reading this doesn't know, the HK and the DPSM are not compatible. I don't know how hard it would be to disconnect or remove the HK system in order to install DPSM instead.

from what it looks like, i'm thinking this could be a factory option for the MINI's in the not so distant future...perhaps the ultimate factory stereo, above the HK....

and yes, i'm was thinking that is was an addon to the standard boost CD player setup...

I read a few months back about the DPSM high end stereo option, but MINIUSA has been very tight lipped about it and probably we will not get to see it in the options menu, not at least until the R56 '07 MINI becomes available.

I am very happy with my H/K and for $550 the sound quality is more than I would expect from a factory install. I have a 4GB Apple Nano iPod hooked with the OEM iPod adaptor and my H/K simply ROCKS! The H/K system does show a lot of imperfections in the music and sources, so the better quality recording you have, the better sound you can expect.
