Bored in Beale
Just got my back from a tour in Germany where I raised my 04 Indi Blue MCS through 25K miles on the autobahn and now she is sitting on base held back by ticket crazy cops and potholes the size of...well minis...
I am looking for a good route
to drive somewhere between Sacramento, Red Bluff and Reno..
Anyone know of a meet going on anywhere around there? I have heard that Thunder hill raceway has a Mini Day but can't seem to find any info on it...
Can someone help me get a motor on? God I miss the autobahn.

Hi and welcome! Hope your MINI makes it out of the brig soon.
The Thunder Hill MINI day is a once-a-year event put on by a private contractor (I think it's called "big MINI day). However, I think Thunder Hill has some other track, lap, and driving school days on their calendar: http://www.thunderhill.com/.
My 2003 MINI has gone east, south, and west, but I really haven't taken her too far north of Sacto yet
so I can't help you out with good drives. You might check out the Northern California forums for some ideas!

Wow, this brings back memories. I know what you mean....Beale is the ONLY place I've EVER gotten a traffic ticket....and it was for speeding in the housing area.
Though I was stationed there for almost five years, I didn't have anything near as fun as a MINI to drive (had a Ford Probe
)so I never got too familiar with the right kind of roads. However, I did love the drive out the back gate toward Grass Valley. There are some excellent roads up that way and it made the trips to Reno a bit longer but a lot more entertaining. If you haven't tried that road out the back gate, you should....you're in the beginnings of the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas as soon as you exit the base and the road is nice and twisty! Get yourself a NorCal Gazeteer and scout the roads out that way up toward Nevada City and Grass Valley.

If you are looking for good roads to drive in California check this web site: http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm.
The Oroville Quincy Highway to Quincy on highway 70 and returning on La Porte Road would be a good one to run. They are close to Beale.
