FOTD - Friday, October 21 meetup

Looks like I'm green for FOTD on the 20-23rd.... since I'm not sure who all is coming & where they're staying...

I know this is an unplanned event, but since cell phones don't work up there can we at least agree on a few details so we can find everyone? After that -- we each can figure out who we want to hang out with & make our own plans...?

What FRS channel will everyone be on?

Channel 7, sub 21

Where are you staying?

Please post general info or PM somebody.

Friday Breakfast meetup

I thought maybe we could at least start with an initial meetup on Friday and wing it from there? How does breakfast sound? meeting up around 9:30am? Is the Crossroads of Time open for breakfast or should we plan for Fontana/Tapaco?

Plans:

9:30 am

The Home Place
Hwy 129 and Hwy 72
(past Tabcat Bridge about 10 miles beyond the Dragon, Tennesse side)

Friday Dinner Meetup

I know some folks aren't planning on coming in until later Friday... anybody want to meet up for dinner around 7 pm somewhere? I've got to eat & I'm only familiar with the BBQ place for restaurants -- any other suggestions?

7 PM (ish)

Sweetwater BBQ
176 Sweetwater Rd
Robbinsville, NC 28771
(828) 479-6862

Man, I wish I could make it Friday night but its a 7 hour drive for me that I will not be making after a 9 hour work day on Friday. I might be able to make it over for Saturday afternoon and then head home Sunday... thats a lot of driving

My favorite Dragon breakfast is at the little diner a few miles past the dragon at the intersection of US-129 and HWY 72

We usually go there for breakfast these days. . . . .nothing fancy but cheap and hot!

Hey, Yucca...

Sounds like a plan! I was hoping there was another choice besides the Peppermill or the Crossroads. Anybody want to me there around 9:30 am? (Or is that too early for a motoring day?)

Bueller? Bueller? . . .

Is that past Tabcat Bridge or past Tapaco lodge? I need to find me a map... Do you happen to recall the name of the diner?

Channel 7 Sub 21 is what most of us use to keep in contact.

The place Andrew is talking about is called “The Home Place”. It’s on Hwy 129 past Tabcat Bridge about 10 miles. A great drive first thing in the morning.

As for dinner I’m not sure what everyone is doing so I’m all ears for any suggestions.

Soundwave,

Weather sounds promising!

I'm limited in knowledge to what I had to eat at the Dragon in May. The BBQ place in Robbinsville was pretty good... Does that sound good or does somebody else wanna chime in?

I'd like to do the Skyway and see Cade's Cove this time... I didn't make those last time. Hopefully I can get at least one in this weekend.

Dinner around 7 pm?

Deb

PS to all: If you see the The Short Bus (VA plates Deviled Egg (abbreviated)) on the Dragon, be nice to her... She's the youngest member of our Richmond club & we're all a little protective of her.

We always stop in and see Will the owner of Sweetwater BBQ. Either dinner or lunch, but we always stop.

We get our runs on the Dragon in early to beat the traffic overload that will happen in the afternoon. There will be plenty of time to make either run.

In no particular order, I'd like to have dinner/lunch in Robbinsville at Sweetwater, maybe a dinner at Tapoco, breakfast every day at the Home Place, and I'm happy to do anything else anyone wants to. . . .

Skyway is nice for long sweeper turns and chances to get going a little bit faster. . . . I'd do it again.

Does anyone still have a spare bed/sofa for friday night? I doodled and doodled and now all rooms were gone about 8 days ago, but if it is a problem I can drive up Saturday am and just hang out for the day.
Cheers,
Herbert

Oh, yes... I puked on the Chilihowee ralley last time... just ask my partner "Edge"... he thanked his lucky JCW brakes that it wasn't in his new JCW MCS...

Despite motion sickness drugs each day, I managed to puke once on the area road and I had to pull over & rest on my second run of the Dragon... I don't worry about pushing Sebby too hard since my stomach fails long before he can't hold a twisty

I am wimp & proud of it! But I'm really good at taking pictures of everybody else driving on the Dragon...

I once rode with someone on the Dragon and got a little queasy even though we were going only at a moderate pace, but I never feel queasy when I am driving myself.

I'll look forward to some great action shots of my MINI!

The HomePlace is awesome! Getting there is a blast, eating there is like home for the Dragon veterans!

I'd love to do the Cherohala Skyway again and see the beautiful falls, where we can get pix of our MINIs behind them!

I'm bringing the old S. I'd like to show off the new Cooper but I'm travelling solo and the wife needs something to drive at home.
