Hand brake service notice.

Has anyone had a problem with the rear brake pads rubbing? The brake warning light came on and the dealer said that there was a service notice on the rear brakes. This was due to the routing of the hand brake cable which caused the pads to engage even when the handle was released.

The thing is that the MINI was in for service just two weeks before and the brakes were checked. They said that the pad wear was in spec and everything was fine. Some how, according to the dealer, the cable kinked or dragged and the pads rubbed and wore the rest of the way out in just two weeks with out much driving. The MINI is a 2003 with 28,000 miles.

I don't know when this service notice was issued. When we first called in they told us it might just be the warning light malfunctioning. We were told this before when the engine light came on and didn't take the MINI in right away as we were told it probably only needed a reset of the computer. Then just a couple of days later a valve spring broke. I have learned to insist that they check in to the cause as soon as possible.

I know this is old but i was just lookin around..

This is an easy fix......The turned tube coming out of the rear calipar that houses the cable needs to be bent out because its binding up.

Service bulletin on this issue.

Mine were rubbing so they did the service bulletin. They also told me when the car is jacked up so the wheel is hanging down it will pull on the Ebrake cable a little bit causing the rub.
