Replacement for 17" RFs

All opinions are welcome.

OK, I'm sick of the OEM all-season RFs. They are killing my back although I still like the idea of RFs. I want to remain stock in size but willing to dump the all-season for "summer" tires and just switch tires for the couple of months of bad weather in my part of the country.

Tirerack got Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Any opinions?

If I go non-RF. which ones (from tirerack)? Bridgestones G force?

Price isn't an issue as the non-RFs are dirt cheap compared to the OEM RFs!

Could care less about racing ... to old, to tired, been there, done that.

Used Fuzions for sale

Hey Chows:

I've purchased some new all seasons to replace the following on my MCS:
215/40/17 Fuzion ZRI BW B3W. They are non run-flat performance tires. I purchased them from Tires Plus in Louisville Kentucky and they have 1/2 tread life left. They are in nice shape, and used only for daily commute. I maintain the pressure in them religiously, as well as keep them nice and blackened. Would you be interested in all four for $160.00, you pay the shipping!????? Anyone else out there? I'm in Louisville, Kentucky.

I replaced the stock Goodyear runflats with 215/45/R17 Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S tires through TireRack and it is a world of difference to the better. Much more bite and much quieter. No rubbing concerns and I can still go to work on those few days it will snow here in the North East.

In my opinion, I've had a lot of luck staying wth Perelli tires - But get a more aggresive tire for summer - it does make the difference.

WHy do you need to stick with the stock size?? 215's are minimally (to almost no difference depending on manufaturer) different in width.

If you are willing to go to 215's I would consider the Goodyear F1's. Randy webb likes em second only to the $200 each Bridgestones. And tirerack has em for 100 bucks a piece right now.

Well, I recently switched from S-Lites and 205/45-17 RSA runflats to 16x7 inch SSRs with Michelin Exalto A/S in 205/50-16 (non-runflat). What a DIFFERENCE! Prior to the switch, every time I would go for a ride, even the slightest bump would be felt; with the inevitable result that my neck would lock up (whiplash injury in a prior lifetime). After about 1,400 miles with no improvement, it was either get a solution to the ride harshness or the car was going to be put up for sale. Now, I hear the bumps more than feel them; no locking neck and the car is not for sale. I also got a further benefit in the reduced weight from the SSRs and Michelins - the car performs like I lost a passenger (quicker acceleration... but also shorter stops). Further, there is almost no difference (~0.1 inch) in diameter between the RSAs and the Exalto A/Ss - so no issues with speedometer or odometer error.

Many thanks to Alex for his recommendation!

Anyone want to buy a set of S-Lites and RSAs with ~1,400 miles on them? If so, PM me.

I could go 215, just preferred to stay stock. However, not sure about buying wheels & tires ... thats an expensive proposition.

Further, from the tirerack surveys, It looks to me that the Bridgestone have better dry traction and cornering ability that the F1s. Thats why I'm asking about the Bridgestones. Maybe the tire is too new compared to the F1s and their database doesnt have enough of a sample size yet.
