PDX pulley install recommendations?

I am planning to upgrade my 2005 MCS with a 15% reduction pulley, and GIAC software. Which shop in the Portland area is best to do this?

Mini-Madness is in your backyard check with them. They can point you in the right direction.

You might also wait until Nov. The PDX club is trying to get Randy Webb to do a pulley party along with our Mod-Day.

Just stopped in the PDX to see what you folks are up to. I just listened to the www.whiteroofradio.com Podcast #9 today. Randy is a featured guest. Talk about someone who has passion for what he does.
I am currently waiting for my PS/B MCS to come from the motherland. I plan on going to Webb Motorsports the day the MINI is picked up in Denver.
I lived in West Linn back in 2001. Thought I would just pop in and add my 2 cents. Motor on.

I tried looking around to find more information on a Pulley Party in Portland, but couldn't find any mention of it in the PDX forum. I am seriously interested in having Randy do another pulley for me. He did one on our other car at a PP a year or so ago, and I want to do it all over again. What I really want is another Webb test drive. Anyone got more information about a PDX PP? Also what's the latest on a mod day? I could be up for that as well if it fits schedule-wise.

To address the original question, Alta (in Beaverton, but don't do installs) steered me in the direction of Matrix Integrated to install a pulley. Matrix quoted me a price for the pulley and install that was way below the industry standard of $400 (can't remember what the specific price was, guessing 350). I made them repeat the figures to make sure I heard them correctly. They are also a GIAC dealer. I have never gone to them personally so I can't give a review of them, however Alta did suggest them for what its worth. Until this mention of a Webb PP, I have been thinking of having Matrix do a standard mod package on my car.

The Randy pulley party is just a thought at this time. I have not heard from any of the officers of the club on whether or not we have enough people interested to get Randy out here.

MINI-Madness is probably the only other place I would consider (besides Matrix) http://www.mini-madness.com/html/contact.html.

I will try to keep this thread updated on the possible party.

We could certainly do another party, and have it at Unichip which is a dyno facility as well, if the club and locals are interested. November works out perfectly! It would only take 6 confirmed pulleys to get it done.

Let me know a date you are considering...

Thanks!
Randy

Randy !

I am in contact via email with the PDX club officers about this right now. I will let them know about your offer. The location at this point is at one of the members house. He has a great shop with lift and a 3 car garage available to work in. He lives in Silverton, OR and he hosted last years mod day with great success. The Alta boys even showed up and got their hands dirty. It would be about an hour to an hour and a half drive from the airport (PDX) to the house.

No definite day has been set at this piont, but I will let the officers know that we should get this ball rolling ASAP.

Thanks for the offer

Scott (very happy Randy pulley recipient/test drive passenger )

I had Mini-Madness, in Hillsboro, put on a 15% pulley; and Matrix Engineering in Portland did the GIAC software upgrade.

We're right outside of Portland in Hillsboro, no more than 15 minutes down Highway 26.

We do anywhere from 1-5 pulley installs a week, and have been for the past 2 years, so you're in good hands. We've done a lot of work with PDX MINI the the past weeks, including a clutch and flywheel on Mike the webmasters car just yesterday.

Lets try to keep it local guys, it'd be more than great to get a good friendship built up between the MINI club of Portland and the tuner right next door. Our shop doors are always open, and we do strictly MINI.

You should drop us a line when having some of your events, we'd be more than happy to do a "pulley party" any time. We'll even throw in a discount for a club event, no matter how many people decide to get installs or not.

We're happy to support the MINI community in Portland and local Oregon businesses.

We're also more than happy to give rides in our 235 whp MINI as well, for those who want to see what their MINI's are capable of. The same car that recently competed in the Car and Driver Superfour Challenge for the second time, beating out the top tuners in the country like Cosworth, Greddy, and Skunk2.
The Car and Driver magazine TV show that features the Superfour challenge airs on October 8th at 12:30 PM and 9th at 11:30 AM on the Spike channel.
At about the same time, the magazine should be hitting newsstands.

Feel free to give us a call and talk about what you're planning on doing to your car, we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. We're in the shop Mon-Fri. 9:00 to 5:00. Stop in or give us a call, no appointment needed.

Mini Madness does good work, and their pulleys and other products are a step above the quality of the other vendor...
