yes, it does, but it wont fit an 05.

my filter is a bit more compact, it can tuck down and out of the way a bit better on an 05, at least.

i'm seting up the video right now, it will be online in a few...

well, the k&n i saw was way too long to tuck into an 05.

the k&n has no rubbing at all on a pre-05, this one doesnt rub either...

How long will it take to R&R the new intake? I need my stock intake on the car for autocross events, but if your intake could be removed and replaced with stock in 20-30 minutes (or less with practice) and provided measurable gains, then I'd be interested.

well, i have to take mine on and of before i go in for service.

after going in a few times, i can get in in ad out in less than 10 min.

Kepp checking back for updates. ive decided to try aqnd go in a different direction as far as the intake goes, there may be a new design penned out in a few days. (I'm still tying to actually just look at the engine bay and thinka bout the best way to do it utilizing as many stock parts as possible to reduce costs)

Well I can see it if you get the cost down with high quality parts. Such as a good filter you might have a market.

I applaud your efforts, especially since we've seen exactly zero effort from Moss and other suppliers to fit a product to the '05s. I may or may not be interested; my main concern would be the smaller filter area if you're using a smaller K&N cone in order to keep it from contacting the bonnet insulation. If that's what's necessary to fit the intake, I'd have some concern about resistance, and would wonder whether I was getting a performance increase or decrease.

That's good info that the K&N fits, but I'm not going to pay $150 or whatever for something that I have to "shift around a bit" and which still rubs.

You also might want to contact Mark Ferguson at some point if you actually end up marketing this thing on NAM, just so your thread doesn't get unceremoniously yanked.

For testing various configurations of your MC intake (filter sizes, tube details, etc) you may want to check out this article:

http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_0629/article.html

I did some testing with my MCS and it showed some interesting results about restriction, and lack thereof.

Looks promising. You might be able to talk me into being a test subject.

I may be missing something, but I would think that it would be important to get more cold air into the engine. Cars of the 70's used to have under the bumper intakes. Some even went to intakes at the cowl, as that was decided there was more air pressure there. Is it possible to pick up the air at either of those points. Of course, there is the issue of wet weather to deal with. Just curious.

I'm still new at the whole Mini aftermarket area, but I'm curious why people wouldn't use an intake like the Alta, which has proven performance and is designed to actually be functional. I have a stupid K&N FIPK filter on my toyota pickup and its pretty lame if you ask me. It gets dirty extremely fast and all it does is make a lot of noise. There's also no functionality to it, it just kind of just lays there. Yes it has a heat shield and all that crap but the Alta is actually designed to pull the air in from the top of the bonnet. The pictures that I have seen on this thread of k&n style intakes are just kind of laying around in the engine compartment. What kind of gains could you possibly get out of that. You can't expect to get much performance out of an intake but if you're gonna spend the money on one, at least spend enough on one that is designed around functionality. I dont know maybe i'm just not getting it. Maybe you can get just as much performance as a lame cone laying around in the engine compartment as you would in a sealed compartment aimed directly at a fresh air source. JUst my $.02 Steve
