Pricing question- new MINI's

Hi all,

I'm confused as to some of the pricing I've seen and was wondering what I'm missing.

I just read a post where someone said they paid about $22,000 for a new 2005 MCS. But anytime I've priced them out, I get upward of $35,000. What am I missing? Or is it that because I'm in SoCal, the "sun" markup takes affect.

Thanks,

Mike

I would not say what are you missing, but what are they missing....

Adding the fun items does increase the price.

You should be able to easily purchase a new MCS for 21,450 this is the base price + destination. California dealers think they can still sell at mark-up 90% of dealers everywhere else has NO mark-ups, and even some in california.

I recomend calling Classic or Mini of the Hamptons (where i bought mine) If you ask nice they may even split the shipping cost if you chose not to pick it up...MOTH split shipping with me and so I essentially paid $400 over msrp

Thanks.

I knew options would add to the price but didn't think $13,000 worth. I guess I never paid attention to what I was adding when I was pricing cars. It seemed no matter how I configured it, it would be $30,000+.

Thanks for the buying tips. I've seen MOTH referenced in other parts of the forum, so I know they have a good reputation. I know Brecht here in SD has a bunch on the lot but was always curious as to how they had so many in stock when I read about long wait times.

I'm guessing it's another options answer. These cars can be so personalized that people will wait for what they want v.s. getting one now, but without or with options they have no interest in.

Well my $16 MC came out at $24,000--or almost 50% more just in options---NAV, Leather, Sports Package, Premium Package, etc...

If your MCS is in the $30K+ range, then maybe try configuring it without JCW, or Aerokit, or other pricey addons. Remember that installation is always extra for all of those dealer modifications--like the Aerokit.

Also, if you're configuring online, those markups in SoCal are NOT reflected in the MINIUSA confurator. South Bay MINI and Long Beach MINI don't charge markup here in SoCal.

MINI dealers always order Premium Sport and Cold Weather packs on their "in Stock" cars. Jacks up the price and forces you to pay for options you may not want if you are unwilling to wait for your car to be custom built. They also lovbe to add things like Window tint, custom leather seats, bonnet stripes

I wonder why they dont add the convience pakage also! More $$$ for them!

Are you talking about MCS Convertible? there are at least $5000 different between hard top and the conv. It is easy to opt. a MCSC over 35k. But it must be Loaded with every thing for a hard top.

Mine was about $25k (MCS) but I only got premium and cold weather packages.

The MINI is as expensive as you want it to be! You don't *need* all that other stuff...

When you spec a MINI on MINUSA, just look at the price breakdown over to the right, like the one MINIAC posted above. It shows you very clearly where all the costs are.

OPTIONS. Your loading it up with stuff you might not need

Most everything you really "need" comes stock (like AC or seats (hehe)) what more you want.

Dont load it will all those options ...

The configuration I posted was just an illustration of how high options can drive up the price ... it's certainly not a car I would order

MINI USA's requirement to purchase either the Sport or Checkmate Package in order to get the JCW Package, wiped out any thoughts I had about replacing my 2002 MCS JCW with a 2006 model

OK but if you want DSC, fogs, and Xenons along with some stripes, your up to $1300. Sport package is $1400

so your not going to get the JCW package for $100? That makes no sense to me.

If can still buy whatever wheels you want or go aftermarket wheels. I guess I dont get it.

I could be wrong... but I think you could still get an S without sport package and have the JCW added on as an accessory. either that or maybe the dealer could make it happen for you without the sport package. I agree the Slites are unneccesary... in fact I prefer the stock 16" ones... but if you add the xenons, dsc, fogs and spoiler I think the package is only $30 more. I have a sneaking suspicion that the 17" wheels would add more than $30 in resale value at the other end... so I'll get them and buy some good 16's to mount summer tires on :D

Having to buy things you don't want ... 17" wheels, Xenon headlights and DSC.

In Germany the JCW Package includes the Engine Tuning Kit, Brake Kit and 16" R94 wheels.

MINI USA should have just replaced the stock R84 wheels with R94 wheels when ordering the JCW Package

True ... but the Engine Tuning Kit is $4,775 plus at least 10 hours in labor charges and the Brake Kit is another $1,065 plus labor

The wheels I get. BUT ... assuming your willing to get the DSC, Xenons, it comes with $100 and on a $30K car, $100 is the price of doing business.

You really don't want the DSC or Xenons? The DSC I can almost see since its just another safety feature to keep people from driving like fools but the Xenons??? Xenon is awesome.

The reason I say that is because I could care less about the DSC but there is no way I would buy the car w/o the Xenons.

To each their own...

I have halogens + front fogs and can still see out at night

Saving another 15-20 pounds from the front end.

I don't like the the S-lites that come in the sport pack either. I got everything in the Sport Package except the wheels. The problem now is that none of the 16" wheels offered in the US will clear the JCW brakes that are now included in the JCW package

I wasn't fond of the Slites when ordering, but over the passed few weeks, like the speedometer, and trademark mini exaust burps, I've become quite fond of them. It could be the silver boot/bonnet/side stripes I added that make the silver S-Lites look better... Or I could just be hallucinating.

Oh. And you could probably break 40k if you got a Cabrio with EVERYTHING.
