Residue on inside of windows - streaks.

Hi! I recently bought an 02 CooperS and must say that I LOVE this car. I have however, had one small problem which i've noticed.

The inside of the door windows seem to streak very badly and leave an odd residue on them which is almost gritty feeling. It does come off with some cleaner and good elbow grease, but once you open the windows again, it comes back..

Any ideas? I want to tint the windows, but have a feeling this stuff will scratch them up while opening/closing. Is this a common issue? or am i unique.

only answer I can come up with is if the car was undercoated before i got it, and some of the underspray which they normally put inside the doors somehow got on the window track

have an 05 MCS with 12,000 miles and ...

the same problem that you report.

I wash this car by hand every week, wax every month, treat the leather every month, the trim, tires,... yes... every two weeks (ha! - fooled you )

but this mystery funk has shown up. I am now figuring how I can resolve this issue... A beautiful car with funky windows....

I will post here if I can solve the issue.

Please do the same if you figure it out.

Good Luck

I have the same issue. I asked the dealer about it, and they said that it is a result of the pads holding the glass touching when the window is down all the way. Road grime, they claim, gets on the outside pad, then transfers to the inside pad when the window is all the way down.

The trouble with that is, the pads never actually touch, so it was essentially a complicated excuse that got me out of the service department without pushing the issue. It's very annoying, though. Seems like it happens less on my car when the weather is hot and dry.

I will clean my windows as best i can, and attempt to not open them ALL the way for a couple weeks and see if that makes any difference I dont see how it can, or almost every car on the road would have this problem

Have you tried taking the door apart and looking inside? It is not that hard to do.

Same annoying problem here. Have'nt done anything about. Hopefully one of you will figure it out 'cause I'm not taking anything apart unless I'm sure it'll solve the problem.

Nothing's more frustrating than going thru the effort and not getting any postive results.

The material that much of the interior is made of, mainly the dash, causes the haze on the windows. It emits gasses, especially in the warmer months. Dash covers and time can help reduce the amount of haze.

I thought the same thing until I realized that it was an 02. Those gases should be long gone. I think that it is road grime getting in there.

I posted in another thread...had the same type of problem in a 2004 Audi A4 even after 1 yr. it is common in new cars but should be gone after say 3-4 mos. It was so bad, it actually interfered with my road vision in the sun...aside from the annoyance...Audi corporate did NADA but try to BS me, so I reported it to the NTSB,,,try MINIUSA...they are usually cooperative from my experience!

Mine was an oily smearing goop which was said to be caused by the chemicals they use in the interior...ahhh the wonderful world of petroleum based plastics!

remote possibility...it could also be something in the ventilation system...Audi did an air conditioning flush...NO JOY!

Don't know if this is the same, but I have had white almost greasy feeling streaks on my windows. The dealer said there was excessive lubricant on the inside (forget which part they said it was on). They cleaned off the excess and it is now better, but still have it on one side.

its not that. its linear streaks that come and go. I have it too. Pre tint I was worried about friction and scratching in those locations but it didn't happen after I got the tint on.(scratches that is) I still get those removable streaks though

I have this issue too. I have found that vacuuming those black strips with a soft brush and wiping them (before washing) with a damp, lint free cloth helps with the streaks.
