MINI Cooper S with John Cooper Works Tuning Kit 6-speed manual $47,700
(add AU$7K for Cabrio)

MINI Cooper S Chilli with John Cooper Works Tuning Kit 6-speed manual $50,700

"...From August production, the MINI Cooper S with John Cooper Works Tuning Kit is being built alongside MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S models on the Oxford production line,

Previously, the John Cooper Works Tuning Kit had been retro fitted by MINI Garages around Australia.

Now, Australian MINI buyers can order the hot-shot 154 kW 1.6-litre supercharged engine version (with 254 Nm of torque) direct from Oxford.

For Australian buyers, any MINI Cooper S ordered with the John Cooper Works Tuning Kit also includes additional specification, comprising the powerful John Cooper Works brakes package..."

That's quite good value, relatively speaking, and including the brakes too is a nice touch.

I still can't get over the price of cars in Aus compared to the States. The Monaro sells here for $33k base price. A new Mustang starts at under $20k. Base price on a Cooper is $18k. Those are US dollar prices, but they convert to $43k, $26.5k and $24k. From what I can tell, except for the Mustang that isn't sold in Aus, Aussies pay about double what Yanks do for the same car. And the Monaro is designed and built in Aus! Bastard goverment!
