I decided to buy a set of 15x7 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 wheels for the track because they fit over the Wilwood 11.75 brakes which I plan to buy sometime. What size R compound tires do I need?

 

Typically people run 205/50/15 "R-compounds" on a Mini. I don't know if any of the popular sticky tires have a wider size that'd work with a Mini's gearing or not.

 

You might try 225/45/15. Dunno if anyone makes R-comps for them, though.

call tirerack and ask for alex for information... my understanding is that 225/45-15 fits fine, and may be best for track which has r compounds. I wonder is 225-50-15 would fit.... which I know has lots of r compound sizes...

 

I'm running Kumho Ecsta V700 in 225/45/15 and the Victoracer in 225/50/15 on my 15x7s (I alternate). Both sizes fit fine. IMO, 205's are too narrow for track use.

 

225/45 works great due to being shorter in diamter it allows the addional width.
