Who insures your mini and (if you dont mind) how much do you pay? I was just qouted $1,800 a year for full coverage on a 2003 MCS in Colorado (rural). That seems like an outrageous number to me.

I'm in Seattle with 2 other cars and a 16 year old son (with another vehicle listed as his "primary" vehicle). I beleive that I also said another car was my "primary" vehicle. I'm 42 and with Allstate with a decent (hopefully stays that way...doh!) driving record. Paying $840/year. Oh and that is $500 deductible for collision and $100 deductible for comprehensive.

$840 sounds more realistic, maybe my insurance guy's secretary was crazy. I am checking with other agents as I write this.

Darksky,

Here in Ohio I'm paying $960 for my MCS. Thats through an independent agent (Cincinnati Insurance Co.) I'm 49, married and this is on a 3 car policy, 250 deductible collision, 100 liability. There are cheaper policies out there, I get great service from my agent. $850 sounds reasonable. By the way, the policy on my 02 BMW 530i is cheaper, at $925. Go figure, that car cost twice as moch as the MINI. Insurance is some racket.

My State Farm broker did not even know what a MINI was when I checked with them a month ago! Said it was "not listed". Gave me a quote of about $1,500/year just based on the cost ($22,500 approx) of the car and whether it had an alram, etc.

Hope they do not jack it up when the little one arrives.

So far : State Farm $1263 yrly
Progressive $2400 yrly (!!)
Any one in Denver have an agent? I'm in Pueblo and I cant believe the rates. Most agents can't even find the car much less give an intelligent estimate.

Here in Dallas I have Nation wide. i'm 31 and pay 85.00 per month.
I called and complained and got about 300 chopped off each year. I complained that they had it classified as a BMW and I was able to convince them it's not baded as a 'BMW" and was the safest car on the road.....
Talk to them!!!!

I'm paying about $700 a year with Safeco. 500/500 liability coverage, with $250 collision deductible and $100 comp. dedutible. Coverage for the Mini is costing as much as our other two vehicles combined.

I received quotes even higher than that, or the insurance company would not even cover me because I wasn't already insured (State Farm & Allstate).

I did get a "reasonable" quote from Farmers and went with The Hartford through AARP. If you are 50 or over I think The Hartford is worth checking out.

I have 4 cars on the policy. the mini cooper S runs somewhere between 600-700 with a 16 year old (me) and two adults with 2 speeding tickets each within two years

the other cars on the policy are
2002 porsche twin turbo
2000 Audi A8l
1991 toyota pickup

Total I think the insurance runs about 6 grand a year without my parents speeding tickets it would be half that.

ohh and I am licensed to drive any of the cars.

I called State Farm and they quoted around $600 a year to add the MINI. I'm keeping the truck but reducing it to an occasional-use vehicle, saving us about $60 a year.

The biggest factors (in general) are 1) your age 2) your gender (especially if you're young), 3) where you live and 4) what kind of car you drive. Don't worry young folks, I've paid through the nose in the past! Did when I was young, (and I've always been a boy ), when I had a road-rocket Datsun 510 and when I lived in Baltimore City. Now I'm old(er) and live in the country. The MC is only a moderate road rocket by insurance standards.

WOW, there are many factors that go into the price i.e. your age, vehicle age, number of drivers on the policy and their records, number of vehicles insured, and believe it or not other policies (like homeowners ...) that you have.
My case in Denver with State Farm: 473/ 6 mo for full coverage (which I have never carried before) [yes I have the bill sitting in fornt of me I did not remember that # off the top of my head ]. This replaces a 15 Y/O car with only liability coverage that was costing $700/ yr. Facts: 34 y/o single male driver, perfect record, 2nd car, homeowners coverage.

Credit scores go into the mix as well. I have one ticket which hurts but my debt to income ratio is too high so State Farm will not touch me. My current company charges more for a MINI than a 2000 Honda Accord, one of the most stolen vehicles in the US. I will call them today to see if they have all the saftey features listed correctly. I pay about $868 a half for the MINI and the Saturn 'Terrorism Support Vehicle' SUV.
Rant ON- What does credit have to do with car insurance? I can see them forcing full payment for the policy but to deny coverage is obtuse. -Rant OFF

Denying coverage based on credit may be objectionable or maybe even obscene, but it's not obtuse. Sorry, it's the English major in me creeping out again.

BTW, I pay under $600 through Progressive!
