Oil change before next race?

I'll be approaching 9,000 miles on my odometer, within a month from now. I will be running a track day, at Streets of Willow in aprox 4 weeks.

So, the big question...

Is it advisable to change my oil before the big track day? If I do, then 1-2k miles after the race I'll need to go in for another oil change (first service).

Thoughts? Should I change the oil now or wait until my next service (after the race)?

Thanks,
Gary

I change my oil and filter before every track day event. That's about 12 changes this summer already. (Mobil 1 and STP oil treatment)

May not be necessary, but it's worth being safe, especially if you push your car.

Thanks Onasled! You were one of many that I was hoping would chime in Just for piece of mind, I will change it (whether or not I really need to).

Thanks again...

So Mobil 1 is your oil preference? I'm assuming the filter needs to be purchased from a dealership? Is there anything else I need to buy from them (ie: new O-Ring)?

Thanks,
Gary

I've only done this once so far and the o-ring was included in the box with the OEM filter.

Mobil 1 has done good for me so far and I know many who use nothing but on the track. I get my filters from NAPA. A very good filter. Comes with seal.

I change oil before each track event. Mobil1 or Redline 10-40. Better safe than sorry. Also don't forget to do the trans at start and end of racing season, another cheap way to keep your MINI running. Redline trans.

See ya soon Greg.
