Alta Intercooler Air Diverter Spritzer
Alta Intercooler Air Diverter Spritzer
I'm thinking about getting an Alta Intercooler Air Diverter and it comes with the "water spritzer" (a technical term) for additional cooling. (http://www.altaminiperformance.com/p.../ICDIVERT.html)
My research indicates that the installation recommends connecting the spritzer hose to the rear window washer. But, alas, I have a cabrio so I have no rear window washer. That leaves the front washer or the headlight washer. Either of those options seem less than optimal to me (the former means running the windsheild washer when I want to cool the engine and that latter means that I have to run the wipers and have the headlights on, too). So my question is, has anyone come up with some sort of innovative solution that allows independent use of the intercooler spritzer that is also useable on the cabrio? Thanks for your help!

The "water spritzer" looks like an interesting concept.
It looks like all you would need to do is buy a window washer pump & reservoir, plus an on/off switch and some wire. You could mount the set-up under the hood, close to the intercooler and then tie into the fuse box for a power source.
Auto zone has the windshield washer motor for $14

I thought about it and taking daleCarlsbad's idea a little further, I think what I could do is get a washer pump and share the existing front windshield or headlamp existing with a Y connector. I would install a separate momentary contact switch or pushbutton to activate the new pump and spray the intercooler. There's a universal pump at JCWhitney for $10 (comes with tubing and wiring), the Y connector comes the Alta Intercooler Air Diverter kit and the pushbutton (depending on how fancy the one I choose is) would run about $10. I would probably also need an add-a-circuit to supply a fuse for the new pump (also about $10 although I have seen it for $7). I would need to find somewhere under the bonnet (and somehow) to mount the new pump and somewhere to mount the switch inside the car (perhaps I'd have to warm up the dremel tool for this). Sounds like a whole afternoon of fun!
I'm going slightly different.
I'll be runing a separate control for the headlight washer. It will be re-routed to the IC sprayer, I don't like the headlight sprayers, puts water all over the place!
Many have done stuff like this. TonyB is moving a resevoir to the back of the car, but this may be for water injection......
Search and ye shall find.....
