A/C whine

I have a 2005 MC with the manual transmission. When the A/C is on there is an audible whine that increases in pitch as the revs go up. Is this normal?

When the rad fan cuts in, you won't hear the whine. Man that fan roars.

Whew! I'm glad to see this little thread. I was starting to wonder about the A/C noise, and then I started to notice other little things.

Just turn off the A/C and roll down the windows. It's only 96F. Nice out.

I have an 05 MSC with manual as well. I hear the AC whine when the AC has been on for a period of time (30-60 min) and it is really hot out. The whine seems to be most noticable when the engine is reving around 3000 RPM's. It is almost silent on either side of this but is very noticable at 3000. I would like to say there seems to be a decrease in power when this happens but it may just be my imagination. Anybody know what is making this sound and why is it only doing it at certain times and conditions?

Thanks,

Oban
