See where we M2C2 members live...

Fellow MINI owners... curious about the M2C2 population distribution?

Have you played with Google Earth yet?
If you haven't, you are in for a treat. Google Earth is some cool software that allows you to navigate the earth with 3-D satallite imagery; you overlay road maps ; you can "fly" from location to location; Google travel directions overlaid on satellite view of earth; and much, much, more.
Check it out!

Go to Google Earth Home and install Google Earth.

Then download the M2C2 Members by city by right clicking the link to the Google Earth file and do "Save Target as". Be sure to give file an extension of ".kmz" NOT ".zip"

Then Double click the saved file or "File Open" from inside Google Earth.
And check out where we live.

M2C2 Google Earth File

For the paranoid types... don't worry, there is no personal information contained in this database.

The attachment of M2C2 owner locations is May 2005 M2C2 information. I will update the file after the M2C2 renewal period this month.

Enjoy!

Moderator, would you please consider making this a sticky thread?

Cool! I've used Google maps and overlayed the maps over the satellite photos. I can even see my house!!

Agreed! The sat imagery is pretty impressive. They use Navteq (quarterly updates) for the mapping data, same as our MINI Nav system. Interestingly, my community streets are seen on the sat image, but not present on the Navteq data, so my home is 'unplottable'... or as the pleasant British female voice of my MINI says "outside the digitised area".

Cool concept with mapping our MINI pals!

Hmmm on review, it seems they are using different mapping data than the Navteq information used on-line with google maps... it even has my street and home <!>

Wonder why the change?

Anyway, here's a trivia item. Once you have added the data for our M2C2 pals, select the Hendrick MINI site and let it fly you over to the dealership. Zoom in with the map and tell me what seems to be missing from the satellite view?

that's funny, Looks like the MINI building isn't there yet.
I see the HUMMER dealer, and the BMW dealer with a big parking lot waiting to be a MINI lot.
so each segment of the Sat photos are taken at different times, because the sat photo on google earth by my house is only about 4 months old. I can tell by the constuction nearby.

Keyhole

Totally cool.

I can zoom down to my apartment, and there's a black blurry car in the parking lot that is my Jag XJ-S! I know this because it was non-commission for a long time and the only car in that spot.

What is cool is that you can tilt, then rotate for an even better look.
