Seats or Brakes?

Well biggripper is right that was one very funny eBay reads I have seen. The price is actually quite good and since I am living in the UK now I might be tempted but I am curious about two details so if anyone has some thoughts please share.

What is the difference between the rear leather seats I have in my Mini now and the ones he is offering? I mean they look identical and so therefeore I really don't think I need them, yes, no?

And now for the real important question. My car is currently "out of balance" meaning it is too powerful for the brakes to be adequate. I really need to get a brake upgrade done. Given the choice which would you spend your money on, brakes or seats? I think I know the answer to this one but I am curious to hear what others have to say. I will say this, that after just 23,000 miles the left outside bolster on the drivers seat is beginning to to show friction wear which really bothers me, is this covered under warranty?

Thanks guys!

MGear, since you're living now in the UK you could check the seats directly with JCW. The ebay ones don't look that original to me.

These are JCW seats

VM I agree with your suggestion except for one very important factoid. Everyting over here costs approximately 30% more than in the USA. To buy those seats from JC would be approximately $3000.00USD fronts and rears.

I think I will go with the brake upgrade biggripper as you suggested and install them myself.

I would ove to get those seats but brakes are more important and will allow me to go faster too

I'm also in the UK... Just felt like adding that too There's a local person here in our mini club that is selling JCW seats for 1500 quid!

As MGear stated, that is almost $3000.00 for two seats and not to mention the lovely airbag situation we have to overcome.

I wonder if we can throw in a resistor to the end of the airbag wire? I did do this to my Ford Focus after installing SVT seats to rid the airbag light.

Go with brakes, MGear. (I still owe you an long overdue PM, BTW)

The fronts appear to be legitmate JCW seats, (or Sparco Milano's essentially recovered).

The supposed JCW rear seat the ebayer is offering looks nothing like the JCW rear seat (note the stitching and cushion pattern design should match the front), and everything like the stock cooper S seat I have. The proper JCW leather emboss is impossible on the rear seats that he is advertising, as it would go across the center stiching of each rear seat position.

I suppose it's possible that he posted the wrong pics and does have the rears, but it makes you go hmmmmm.

A side by side....

Something you should note, the seller never says he has JCW Rear Seats. He just says he has genuine seats.

After rer-eading the ad, you are right.

Although it's fair to say that one could easily be mislead.

Not sure why you'd want to replace your rears with the same seat though.

Yeah I'm not so sure why someone would want to replace their rear seats with the same ones either

They might not have leather?

I'm not looking around to verify this is the case and what these JCW seats fit in, but I am assuming all MINIs, so what if someone had cloth seats?

I actaully sent an email to the seller asking about whether or not he would sell just the front seats cause I don't need the rear bench, no one sits back there and I keep it folded down most of the time, besides it's already leather.

He never responded to my interest about selling the fronts and backs separately

Looks like I made a mistake, in defense of the seller he did in fact repsond to my email regarding the question about the rear seat being a JCW unit.
The seller said the rear seat in his sale is not a JCW unit.
