Malfunctioning window motor

Sorry...didn't know where else to post this. My '03 build MCS will soon be having a second window motor unit installed (well, that's my assumption)...the passenger window doesn't function. I'm posting this to see if this issue is 'unique' to our rides. How 'bout it....what kind of problems are y'all having??????

I haven't had any issues with the windows in my '03 MCS (knock wood) but I know someone else with an '03 who is also going in for the second window motor in her passenger door.

Hope your problem is resolved the second time around.

I dropped my mini off to get the engine cooling fan replaced and asked what sort of problems occurred the most frequently and on what cars (minis and bmws). I was told that the window motors go out all the time on all bmws, so your problem is not unique and I imagine that they are using better motors so it won't happen again (until your warranty expires, ha).

The passenger window motor went out on my '03 MCS too. Seems like there were a number of folks with window motor problems in another thread on here a while back.

I had window motor problems on GBMINI#2 - both sides (see http://www.gbmini.net/mtblog/archive...ile_serv.shtml, for example).
It seems the insides of the motor eventually wear themselves and gum up the brushes so the motor no longer gets the power it needs to turn.

A temporary repair can be effected by sharply hitting the door (just below the door-open handle) while at the same time activating the window toggle to move the window.

Window Motor Problems, 2003 MC

Thanks for the "Hit the door" tip. It worked great! I had the driver side window motor replaced last fall with no further problems until last week. A weeks worth of rain and then 90+ temperatures took out both windows.
Both are working again after the hit under the handle. (For now)

From what other owners say in my area, the window motors have been a continuing problem. Also the squeeeeeek as they open and close.

Yep, I posted several weeks ago about my driver side window motor being replaced on my 03 MCS with 9000 miles.

I just gotta try and put more miles on the car before my warranty runs out.

The wife drives a 98 BMW 528I and never has had any problem with the power windows. Her car has 86,000 miles and really has been trouble free.

BMW window regulators are generally KAKA

yup the bad window regulator problem is endemic to BMW products. When I was having both of my $24k 05 S's regulators replaced (worn out at 6,500 miles) I ran into a guy having his $82K 05 6 series serviced for the same problem. his car only had 4k jimbo

Passenger window motor replaced around 42K while under extended maintenance .. YAY! Squeaking up/down sometimes happens on both sides. And, I'm always getting streaks on the inside of the windows after up/down after touchless car washes.

I have that exact same problem, but my squeaking noise is LOUD. Is there any way to get rid of this problem? I've tried cleaning it several times, but no success..

After one year and 15,000 miles, I have an appointment next week to have my driver side window fixed, that will not go up and down.

When I flip the switch, I hear a click, but the window motor is dead.

Fortunately, still under warranty!

i had both sides replaced on mine. They fixed it fine, until i realized one of the windows wasn't put back on track and the wind whistled through the windows. It was so awful, i wanted to cry. 3/4 of my commute is high speeds, in hot weather... so when A/C was on, and i was going over 50 mph, it whistled. Even my music couldn't cover it up.

I just hope it doesn't go out again! wonder if they fix it for free after warranty runs out if you've already had it replaced once?

my mini drivers side has been having problems. It is intermitent. You can hear the click of the relay. But every time I go to take it in it works again. The dealer states they won't replace it until they can verify that it doesn't work.

I had my passenger side motor replaced a couple of weeks ago. It was *squeeeeeeeking* like a rat with it's tail caught.
I called my Service guy, replaced within an hour.

Driver's side window started making ratchet sounds last winter (9k). Motor and regulator replaced.

Passenger window nice and quiet, but now sometimes does not go down (12k).

I love my Mini and will buy another, but it has been back to the dealer an average of every 1600 miles.

You pay for that handling and fun!

regards,
Red

I do not use my window, so not familiar with the problem, I will try to roll it up and down for 1236 times tonite and see if the motor breaks Hope I won't have any problems, or should I leave it the way it is, alone

Ironically, my dealer (MINI Of The Hamptons) picks it up with a flatbed. So I can't even rack up the 120 mile round trip!

Window Motors Replaced

A bad weekend. Had to have Darwin towed to the dealership. Wouldn't start and would not jump off either. After two days they said it was a bad battery. Had them replace both window motors and chase down a dash rattle. They also replaced the two cowl vents and did a brake fluid fulsh. Still under warrenty so I get to keep both arms and legs.

I hope the window motors are a new design and last longer this time.
