Fall Dragon ? is there a plan?

I hear rumors about a fall get together at the Dragon. Is this organized or is it just a few people or what? I had such a good time in May that I would like to meet up again. Any info?

I'm in.

Let's start our own rumor. Labor Day weekend in Atlanta for Superbike races and the rest of the week on the dragon.....unless there's already plans out there......

There IS a "Fall of the Dragon" in October. Last year, we went right before Fontana closed for the season. This year, I have heard of 2 different weekend dates that MINIs will be present [14-16, and 21-23]. It's not an organized event, but rather, just a group of around 30 or so guys and gals who love to drive the Dragon, view the Fall colors, and hang out together one more time before the snow flies.

We're trying to keep any further mini-MINI meets at the Dragon discreet and free of any bad aura, so the dates are being kept quiet in the interest of peace and quiet.

Cheers,
Ryan

Explain "free of any bad aura" in regards to meeting at the Dragon?
Curious in TN,
H

Just drove the dragon this weekend

Hi guys, I just drove the dragon this weekend. Started in Telico Plains, across the Cherola Skyway (super beautiful in fall) lunck at Tapoca Lodge, then across the dragon, then up foothills parkway to park and enjoy. Then drove it in reverse home. Had a cruiser bike loose it right in front of us. Hit a Pacifica in the front as he lost his grip on a wet corner and crossed the lane into him. Driver got a bad concussion, female rider banged up but ok, Pacifica in the ditch to avoid running over them. The dragon does bite back every weekend. The THP told us average 3-4 good wrecks a weekend. They like cars better than bikes, so do I. My mini had no trouble staying in it's lane.

Would love to see a fall date, maybe sponsered by Smoky Mtn Mini's??

A great run and fills up a whole day. The Tapoca Lodge is a great place to eat and meet. Can seat 150 in the "convention" center.

Does going to the Dragon require a "special invitation"

Hey Ryephile, could you send me a PM about the "bad Aura"? I live here, in East Tennessee, and I'm not sure what you mean either.

Absolutely not; it's still a public road!

Here is the other thread about the Fall of the Dragon. Still no confirmation on the dates.

Some of you are missing the point. There is no "confirmed date" or "anything set-up". The fall Dragon is not a huge sponsored and t-shirted monstrosity like what happened in May '05. There's no chili cookoff, no midnight run, no road rally's....absolutely no planned events, and that's the point. If you want to go there and do some dragon runs, nothing is ever stopping you. If you want to hang out with a few people, pretty much no matter weekend you'll be there, others will too.

OCTOBER

That's close enough for me.

BTW- Leaves are usually near "peak" in the second half of october, but there are fewer leaves on the road in the first half.

If I wanted to go meet strangers I could go anytime. If I want to go with fellow MINI owners, I come here for information and dates. You're right, it's not a big event like MotD in May. But it is a "get together and have fun" event. At least it was last year.

If it's just a special group of friends going, and dorks like me are not invited, just say so.

And yet another excuse for a MINI club....the MINI Dorks. How 'bout a T-shirt? IMO, most MINI/Mini enthusiasts ARE dorks, but the really cool, fun kind of dorks.

Napolian, don't be jealous just because I've been chatting with babes, online, all day. Besides, we both know I'm training to be a cage fighter.
